Atlantis Casino Reno

I have reservations at the Atlantis Casino Reno in July. Has anyone stayed in that hotel and how did you like it? What are some good resturants in Reno, and shows.

Although I have not stayed there, it is a newer hotel - maybe 5 years. It's not downtown, but still centrally located. After winning $1300 at the Atlantis, we have tried again and haven't won since! Also, if you're renting a car, you might want to go to Lake Tahoe and check for shows.

Atlantis is a lovely property. Be sure to get a room in the Tower.

Not to be missed show is Gordie Brown at Harrahs in downtown Reno. He is a triple thret - comic, singer, dancer and does one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I've seen lots and lots).

Have stayed at Atlantis three times because they keep sending me offers for free rooms, but I'm not planning on going back.

The whole place is unsettling. The decor is supposed to be tropical, but also incorporates lots of neon, mirrored walls, and reflective ceilings. The casino is laid out in a very confusing way. It took me two days during my first visit to find my way around. It's like a really tacky version of The Mirage.

Location is not near anything, but they have a free shuttle to the downtown area which runs frequently. Buses are also available out front which run straight to downtown, with stops along the way.

The rooms are okay. Have only stayed in the tower, concierge level during one stay. The rooms are clean and well-equipped, but not luxurious. The decor is tacky, especially the beadspreads, drapes, and chairs. Bright teal colored with cartoon-like tropical fish all over them. The bathrooms incorporate dark green marble counter tops, light brown marble floors, light yellow colored wall paper, and fake marble beige colored doors. None of it goes together. I often wonder how much people get paid to pick out that tacky stuff. Looks like they got a good deal on different materials and used what they could afford. I guess it seems odd that I memorized the decor of the rooms, but that's how bad I thought it was. Just didn't feel comfortable.

The food is probably the best thing about Atlantis. The buffet was always wonderful. I personally don't like seafood, but their seafood buffet would be heaven for a seafood lover. I don't think that they left anything out. On non-seafood days (which I prefer), the selections were always excellent.

As far as the gambling goes, I just can't seem to do anything there. I mostly like to play video poker, and they do have all the varieties of machines that I like, but I ended up losing all three times I stayed there. You'd think I might hit at least once.

The slot club is infuriatingly complicated. At most casinos these days, you earn a certain number of points for each dollar that you wager. When you go to the slot club, you can pick up a menu that tells you exactly how many points you need to redeem for a buffet, etc. But not at Atlantis! They use some complicated formula that they won't share with you. So you end up waiting in line at the slot club booth, only to be told that you don't qualify for the buffet you requested. You never have any idea what value of comps you have earned, and no one will tell you. They will only tell you if you qualify for the meal or service you requested.

Personally, I would stay at the Silver Legacy. I haven't stayed there yet, but it seems like a real "class act" compared to Atlanis.

Hope this helps.

I like the atlantis. The rooms aren't that luxurious or elegant but given what you pay for them that's fine. What category of room are you stayin in?

Their buffet isn't that great though. The shrimp was very tasteless and a lot of the food was kind of dried out.

The best buffets are at the Silver Legacy or the Hilton.
