Atlantis/Bahamas

Has anyone been to Atlantis in the Bahamas? We are planning a family vacation (8 adults, 4 kids under 5) and are wondering what you thought(?).

A friend of mine stayed there 2 yrs. ago and loved it.

My best friend just went for a 25th wedding anniversary and said it was fun, but extremely overpriced. She has travelled extensively in the USA and islands, so I take her for a pretty fair judge. I asked her husband separately, as he was the one who booked the trip. He said- "Once done is fine, but never again." I asked him why and he said that there was one feature that was very special (the walkway under the reef/ ocean)and that other than that they preferred about 4 other places better that were half the price.

I stayed there earlier this year and would agree with both posts. I really enjoyed my stay, but wouldn't go again. It is beautiful and there is a lot to do there (especially for kids). You really don't need to leave the property! Waterslides, pools, beach, watersports, scheduled activities for kids and adults, swimming with dolphins, and golf are a few of your choices. But it is SO expensive. The food is outrageous ($15 for hamburger/fries at poolside stand) and the room rates are high, too. I would say if you have money to blow, then it's a great place for a family, but if you are on a budget, I would look around.
