Atlantic City NJ advice
 

Any advice on where to stay for a few days in AC? Which casinos would you recommend? Any ideas on which places to eat?

I don't mean this to be a smart alec answer, but my advice is NOT to go. If you really want to gamble save up for a trip to Vegas. Atlantic City is still a dump and the hotels are absurdly overpriced. Well at least I feel better. Now I'm sure someone will come along and give you the advice you are looking for.

Check the Tropicana. They were doing some good deals recently.

I've stayed at the Tropicana for less than $100/night and it's OK. Depending on where you're coming from, I'd tend to side with the first response and advise NOT to go to AC. I live in CT and it pains me to suggest this but Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun (in CT) are a much better environment than AC and in the summer you have a lot of New Englandy type things to do nearby. I think this depends a lot on where you are from and what you are looking to get out of your vacation besides donating some money to the state of NJ.

Go ahead and donate the money to NJ. Just don't do it in AC. Spend the money for foxwoods or mohegan or better yet Vegas. <BR> <BR>I'm from the Jersey shore, and AC gives me the willies. Hate to see it as representative of our Garden State

Hey... Trump Taj Mahal by far is great <BR>The comps are good.... the tables aren't too crowded.... <BR>And the Showboat is attached via a walkway indoors.... <BR>Definitely do it..... <BR>(And always bet on black)

Stayed at the Resorts. OK room for the prices. No view. They did give us priority seating for the Camelot restaurant for staying at the hotel. Make sure you tell them you are staying there. Meal was expensive and and almost worth the price. Otherwise the city is dirty and not well kept. We did not feel safe at night except inside the casinos. The city government apparently has no building codes on the boardwalk. Most of the shops were very tacky, trashy and dirty. I can't believe the city allows this prime vacation spot to be so trashy. Somebody in AC needs a wakeup call. Your money is best spent somewhers else. Go to south Jersey for the beach or Vegas to gamble.

Just back from AC and loved it! The Ocean was warm and the boardwalk atmosphere was fun. We stayed at HoJo for $39.95 night - great price but a mediocre hotel compared to casino hotels. Sun-Thur is at least 50% cheaper than wknds. We went for a Sun/Mon instead. I would call Days, Econo or Holiday Inn. Ho Jo was ok but needed some renos - a little musty. As for casinos I went to 12 of the 13 - not really to gamble just to see what the hype was about. I liked Showboat, Taj Mahal and Bally's the best - probably because they all had a great theme. We ate at the buffets at Bally's and Harrah's - both had an amazing selection and great atmosphere. I thought the Boardwalk was great but the rest of AC didn't look all that appealing. I thought it was a fun way to spend a weekend and am looking forward to going back next summer. E-mail with any questions.<BR><BR><BR>

A few years ago, we decided to hit the Tropicana because (at the time) it was the only casino to have a large, separate nonsmoking area. Much less crowded than the main area. Anyway, on our third hand of video poker, we won $1000...so the Trop gets my vote, at least the nonsmoking area.<BR>BTilke

Has anyone stayed at the Casino City Motel on Albany? Just want to know that it is safe and clean. They said that it was approximately 1/2 mile to the boardwalk. I have stayed at the atlantic palace resorts before right on the boardwalk and it was nice. I was a walkin last May, just $89.00 a night,jacuzzi and all, unfortunately they are full and the rest on the boardwalk out of my budget.

Ugh. My husband and I took a trip to AC a couple years ago and it was our worst vacation ever. GO ELSEWHERE!!!

B Ogle:<BR><BR>I'd suggest staying at Ocean City, NJ. It is only 10 miles away from Atlantic City, you can probably get a nicer hotel/motel room at a cheaper price and still be close to AC. I'd suggest the Chatterbox restaurant in OC for breakfast, their Belgian waffles with strawberries and cream on top is heavenly. In regard to casinos, I like Trump Plaza. All the casinos are very clean and pleasant.<BR><BR>

As long as people refuse to vote with their $$ by staying away from AC, it will never improve.<BR>The reason the city government does nothing to clean the place up is because people still go there for some reason unknown to me.<BR>AC is a scary dump.<BR>I can't believe people actually waste their hard earned $$ there.

Atlantic City is a truly awful place. I can't imagine why anyone would want to go there unless they are a hardcore gambler who doesn't want to do anything else. Even if *I* were a big gambler I'd find a better venue.<BR><BR>A.C is right on the edge of a slum and it's downright scary (remember, this is coming from a Brooklynite who loves Coney Island). The last time I was there, my boyfriend and I were followed around by several shady characters who demanded money, and wouldn't give up! We feared for our lives.<BR><BR>Also, IMO, this is the biggest "trash" destination in the US. I've never seen so many people in one place wearing sweatpants. You couldn't get more un-classy.<BR><BR>And the casinos are incredibly bland and ugly when compared to the glitz of Las Vegas. Donald Trump has NO taste. Look at his casinos, look at his hairdo. NO taste.<BR><BR>Thank God I'll never have to go back there. I used to have to go there all the time for work, but my company now no longer does work for Trump. What a relief!

I disagree with various posts. AC maybe trashy, but I never had any problems walking on a boardwalk (day or night). Hilton would be my first choice to stay, Trump Plaza second. If you stay on Sunday, I would suggest Sterling brunch in Hilton. One of the best brunches I ever had.
