Atlantic City New Jersey

Going to be in Atlantic City NJ for 3 days and 3 nights...........was wondering if Cape May NJ and Ocean City NJ are within driving range and if it would be a good day trip. We are staying at the Wyndham resort and have never been to AC area before...........any input would be appreciated............any recommendations on places of intertest or places to dine would also be appreciated. Thanks

Ocean City is only about 30-35 minutes drive from AC, Cape May probably an hour or more depending on traffic and the route you take. Garden State Parkway would be the fastest, and Route 9 more leisurely, with some nice restaurants and shops along the way.

It's fun to people watch while walking on the boardwalk. One block behind the casinos are jitneys that will also take you around and also to Brigantine where there is Harrah's, Trump Marina, and the Borgata. The Borgata is the nicest casino/hotel in that area. They have some awesome restaurants there, one in particular is Bobby Flay's Steakhouse. A few of my friends have been there and they say their food and service is spectacular. Downstairs in the Borgata is a few fast food places in an area called The Cafeteria. Food is pretty decent and not too expensive. Enjoy your visit to A.C.

For a great meal try Buddakan at the Pier Shops at Caesar's

Cape May is about 45 minutes. It is worth a day trip to see the Victorian houses. In AC go to the White House for good cheesesteaks and hoagies.

Cape May would be a must see if you are going to Atlantic City. I don't think it would be more than an hour and well worth to see if you have never been in this area. It is a beautiful resort town. They have about a 5 block shopping area that is blocked off to cars. They usually have a trolley tour everyday it would be worth taking to see the beautiful architecture of the victorian houses . There are many great restaurants, from casual to very upscale. We were there in May and ate at the Lobster house. Cape may would be a nice getaway from Atlantic City for a while.

Proceeding south from AC on the Garden State Parkway you will come to the exits for Ocean City, Sea Isle, Seven Mile Island (which is both Avalon and Stone Harbor), the Wildwoods (North, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest), and then Cape May. All of these places really are islands so you must depart the Parkway and proceed approx one mile east over a causeway to reach any of them.

If you are new to the area and time is limited I would suggest that you visit Cape May. It is quite different than Atlantic City. If the weather is good you can easily spend most of a day just exploring and investigating the architecture of the town. Some artsy shops to check out as well as some seafood type restaurants. Cape May would be an easy day trip from AC.

I would definitely visit Ocean City and Cape May. I would spend a day in each town but you could do them both in one day if you need to.

Here's a Web site with good maps of the Jersey Shore:

The same Web site has all of the Atlantic City entertainment listings:

My favorite restaurants in AC are:
Buddakan (at the Pier Shops at Caesars) -- definitely the most amazing restaurant in the city!!
Carmine's at the Tropicana -- good family-style Italian restaurant
Any of the restaurants at the Borgata

For an interesting dining experience, try the Bacchanal at Caesars; it's a Roman Style 7 course feast with unlimited wine. The servers are dressed up in Roman attire and they play instruments for you and one girl even goes around giving massages between courses. It's a little corny but it's a meal you will always remember!

Stone Harbor is a nice little town, but it can't beat Cape May for prettiness, and it can't beat Ocean City for boardwalky fun (since it has no boardwalk).

You could spend a half-day on the boardwalk in OC (take a swimsuit and towel if you like -- there are a couple public change-rooms with lockers and such), and then proceed down to Cape May for a stroll around town and a nice dinner.
