Atlantic City for Non-Gamblers
 

DH has a conference in Atlantic City Oct 17-20. I'd like to go, since it's an opportunity for some time without the kids. I really have no desire to go to AC - neither of us enjoys gambling. I'm looking for suggestions of nearby areas to stay (Brigantine maybe?), yet with easy access to the Taj Mahal where the conference is held. We'll have one car, but I'm willing to walk places or drop him off for his conference. Any suggestions?

Mariott Seaview Resort in Brigantine is supposed to be nice and is a short drive from AC. It's primarily a golf resort.
But don't discount AC itself. There's more and more to do besides gamble including the new Quarter at the Tropicana and lots of discount shopping at an attractive pedestrian mall. All of the hotels have at least a few shops with window displays that will either enchant or frighten you. The Atlantic City Museum on Garden Pier has interesting displays of old AC memorabilia.

If you don't mind the drive, what we did was take a drive over to Baltimore and you can even go on to D.C. It's about 3 hours away. Or you can take a drive over to Philly, which is only about an hour away.

The Marriott Seaview is lovely. We went to a wedding there last month. But if you don't play golf, I don't know what you'll do there in October.

There are some outlets in A.C. and they're building a pier from Caesar's with a lot of nice upscale shops (I don't know when it will open). You can see some shows. Margate is nearby, you can visit Lucy the elephant. Cape May is a short drive away and should be beautiful in October.

The spa at Borgata is very nice. Treat yourself to some pampering. I think you can also use their fitness & pool facilities while at the spa. Could easily spend a good chunk of a day there.

I would vote for staying with DH in AC and taking day trips yourself.The AC Boardwalk can fill an hour or 2 and in Oct., Ocean City and Cape May would make perfect day trips.Trips in and out of AC to pick up and drop off DH would be a hassle.When your plans are final, let us fill in your day trips-DH will be zealous!
