Atlantic City & Kids?

We would like to spend a few days in Atlantic City in August. We have two boys ages 13 & 14. Which is the best Casino Hotel to stay in with kids? Also would like to take them to Six Flags & Wildwood. Is Atlantic City central to these two sites? Is there anything to amuse the boys in Atlantic City? Is it a safe city?

Sorry to say, I wouldn't recommend any of the current Atlantic City hotels for those travelling with kids. If you wait about a year, there are currently 5 hotels under construction which will more than likely be perfect, since they're being built by the Las Vegas groups that the Casino Commission just graciously allowed into town. Yes, AC is central to Wildwood and Six Flags. Wildwood is 1 hour south and Six Flags is 45 minutes north. As for things to amuse the kids in AC, forget it. The beach isn't that great (kinda dirty, really short-when you step off the boardwalk its about 20 feet to the water), the boardwalk isn't really safe at night (oodles of panhandlers and unsavory types) and has virtually nothing interesting on it besides the casinos. There are a couple (and I mean a couple) of rides which I wouldn't let my worst enemy ride, since they don't look very safe. Also, more than likely, you'll end up dropping the kids off at the video game room to use up more of your quarters while you are downstairs at the casino. Sorry if this dissapoints you, but I thought you should know. Besides, as expensive and hard to get as the rooms in AC are, you'd be better off staying in Wildwood, Ocean City, or Cape May and driving up to Atlantic City for a day trip or something. Drop me a line if you want some details on places to stay!

Second the above.

I tend to agree with the above parties. If my husband and I had children, I would have to think long and hard before I would take them to Atlantic City. It is really an adult oriented place. I'm not sure if you are going there to gamble, but if that is why, then go to Vegas. Lots to do for families. Good luck!

Make no mistake -- Atlantic City is for adults who like to gamble. Period. Ocean City and Wildwood Crest on the other hand, are perfectly suited for family vacations at the shore.
