atlantic city
we've planned a trip to atlantic city in june. But i've been reading alot on this web site and it sounds like a really bad idea, is there any positive to atlantic city? I'd really appreciate any info
|
If you love casinos and for some reason can't go to Las Vegas or Foxwoods or Mohegan, Atlantic City does in fact have casinos.
There's one positive.Let's see, what else....
There is a beach and ocean views. Of course it's not a very nice beach, but it is a beach.
There's another positive.

That's about all I can think of that's good about AC. It's not pretty, the casinos are worn and unappealing comparedto LV and some of the better indian casinos, AC lacks the nice amenities of Las Vegas like great restaurants, great spectacle hotels, safety factor, etc.
Sorry. I have to call it as I see it.
|
we have been going to AC for several years...we have gone in the winter as well as the summer...providing you go for not more than 3-4 days you should be ok..in the warm months the boardwalk is very nice during the day..it's a great place to people watch and the beach is just so-so..there are cabana's you can rent for the day and for a close to home short vacation..I would defintely go..feel free to e-mail me for any other info..we've stayed at several different places..good luck!!!

in the area frequently. have family there. beside the gambling, do not see what the area has to offer. there are beaches, but certainly not the best in the state. city is unattractive.
|
Atlantic City is to the gambling world
as your local trailer park is to your town.
|
Hold on, if Atlantic City is so bad why are there more people going there than Las Vegas?
|
If you go there purely for gambling, I suppose it's not bad.
|
Are you serious, Les?
If you're being snide, fine.
If you don't know, take a look at a map.
Scan the cities which surround AC and guesstimate the number of people living within an hour (plane, car, train) of AC.
Now take a look at Las Vegas and do the same.
There's your answer.

If you could pick up Las Vegas and move it to the northern Jersy shore it would easily attract 5-10 times more visitors than AC.

Fine. Don't come to Atlantic City this summer. I won't cry!!

I will be eternally grateful that there is one less Shoobie with out of state license plates, who can't drive and make a friggin' decision where to turn on Route 30 when I am trying to get to the Brigantine cove!!
The casinos are just fine, They are attractive, lively, full-scale gambling places which can be fun to visit as well as gamble. The Showboat casino always seems festive and attractive; The Wild West is an interesting western-themed casino. There are plenty casinos, and you can eat at buffets or regular restaurant dining - or even sometimes convenient counter service with good meals, as at the Taj Mahal. The boardwalk and ocean can add an element of interest as well. Behind the casinos, the area is rundown, but you don't have to focus on that. You can even drive or take a bus from the nearby bus terminal to nice Cape May or the boardwalk/beach amusements of Wildwood for a little diversion from the gambling if you'd like. Atlantic City isn't very attractive, but the casinos are still big-league. Go and have yourself some fun!

Jack: Atlantic City is in south jersey, not north.
|
Mike's assessment is very accurate. Unless you're really into gambling, there's asbolutely no reason to go there.
|
I would have to agree - the casinos are pretty flashy, if that's what you are into, but the rest of the city is pretty awful. There are some far nicer beach towns on the Jersey Shore. The reason for the huge crowds is it's proximity to New York and Philly. Busloads of seniors arrive every few hours, and keep the casinos busy.

Sounds like a bad idea if you're "planning a trip" - AC is really ONLY for the gambling. I like it better than Foxwoods, though b/c you can go from casino to casino, get a little variety (and maybe change your luck). Also there are girly bars.
If you're not really into gambling non-stop, you might want to stay in one of the other nicer towns on the jersey shore and do a night in a.c, or maybe just stay a night in ac. How long where you thinking about?
|
"....you can go from casino to casino...and maybe change your luck".

Sorry. There's no such thing.
The numbers are the numbers. They all come out the same way in the end.
There's no such thing as being able to "change your luck" or "break a cold streak" or any of that nonsense.

Gambling odds are no different than lottery odds. Random, uncontrollable, eminently predictable over time.

You people are pathetic.

Atlantic City and the surrounding towns have beautiful beaches with the cleanest water on the East Coast.

Atlantic City certainly isn't as "dirty" as Philadelphia or Ney York City, which I have seen many people post on this forum.

I think you are all afraid to say what you really mean - there are a lot of minorities in Atlantic City, which makes it run down. We who live here are used to people skirting the issue of being "afraid".

Like I said in my previous post, don't come here, I won't cry. One less car makes it easier for me to get to Brigantine.

Losers!!
|
Jersey Girl,

I completely agree with your opinion. I grew up in NJ and spent many a weekend in the Margate/AC area and now that I live across the country I miss it terribly. However, a note of constructive criticism, if I may - your point would be better taken by others if you left out the childish insults. But, like I said, aside from the insults - I'm with ya.

To "Gar" - relax. Someone you know have a gambling problem or something? Keep in mind, to me, an occasional trip to a casino is a form of entertainment. I don't go expecting to win enough to retire(although I wouldn't mind it).

I think the area around A.C. has some nice beaches, including a great diversity of different types of towns (residential, historic, tourist). AC itself has improved a lot over the last decade, but is still pretty sad looking at points, and there is virtually nothing to do but gamble. The hotels and activities come nowhere near Las Vegas. The Vegas hotels are truly attractions in themselves, they all have great shows all the time (Cirque d'Soleil, etc.) and all sorts of top shopping.

My view of AC has nothing to do with minorities. By the way, doesn't Vegas have a huge Hispanic population? And how do you know my race? I have some friends that like AC and some that don't - those that like gambling like AC, those that don't like gambling don't like AC.
|
Dear Jersey Girl:
My sour opinion of AC has absolutely zilch to do with minority population and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that it's simply a dump!
Where in the world do you even begin to read racism in the above comments?
Oversensitive about something?
