Atlanta with a toddler

My husband has a conference in Atlanta next week, and my 18 month old and I are tagging along. We'll be in town for 5 nights, and 4 full days.

Does anyone have suggestions for activities that the Toddler and I might do during the day (we'll have a car), as well as kid-friendly restaurants?

Thanks in advance!

The aquarium and zoo are both great. Try to be at the zoo shortly before the printed opening. Last time they let us in early and we had the place to ourselves before the field trips came in.

Riding MARTA might be fun if your toddler likes trains.

The best tip I can give you is "Piedmont Park". It's our big, intown park - our version of Central Park. A perfect place to go to for a walk or a picnic or to just run on the grass.

If your child was older and into pirates, the second best tip would be the pirate playground aka Mason Mill Park.

The big kids playground is great but the toddler area is good too.

pp mentioned trains. You may want to go up to Kennesaw to this museum, but be sure to go up after rush hour traffic and get back before it starts again in the afternoon -

Stone Mountain Park is fun with lots of things to see and do -

Another drive to the 'burbs that would be worth it is the Yellow River Game ranch -

In addition to the above mentioned places, I suggest the Children's Museum, the Children's Garden at the Atlanta Botanical Garden (and the rest of the Garden), Legoland at Phipps Plaza, and the Fernbank Museum.

Many kid friendly restaurants in Atlanta. What part of town are you staying in and what kind of food do you like?

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! We're staying near the Galleria Centre, and we (and the Toddler) like all types of cuisine (Asian, Mexican, BBQ, Etc, etc).

I was just reading about Piedmont Park and the botanical gardens-are these still worth a trip despite things not being in bloom (if we get a rain free day, anyway!)?

Thanks again!
