Atlanta, GA. to Charleston, Sc
Senior church group(Torchbearer 55+) traveling to Charleston in April. Need to identify reasonable priced restaurants (B & L) between Atlanta and Charleston. Also, would like to know if there are any Outlet Malls between atlanta and Charleston and what are their hours of operation? We're traveling up on Friday(am) and returning on Saturday(pm).

I live in Atl and can't really think of outlets between here and Charleston. You could check the web for Tanger and other outlet mall operators for their locations. There are good outlets at Hilton Head but I don't think that will really work for you.
Not really sure what info you are looking for regarding restaurants...there are plenty of choices along the way at most exits. The Blue Willow Inn in Social Circle GA has great Southern cooking but is not very far into your trip. You will have lots of options in Augusta and Columbia. If you are looking for Carolina style BBQ then you might try Maurice's in and around Columbia. Very interesting mustard based sauce. |
There's an Tanger in Charleston.
Will you be traveling on a bus? Sorry, denisea. I think, unless people enjoy racist memorabilia with lunch, skip Maurice's. I like Palmetto Pig in Columbia, but I'm not sure if they have bus parking. You might call and ask. |
I'm not sure I understand. You plan to make a 5+ hour drive to Charleston on one day and come back the next day? And you want suggestions on where to stop to eat AND to shop at outlet centers? I just can't imagine that trip - especially for a group of seniors. I've driven it without stopping (for work), but if you drive and stop once for bathroom breaks you are already at 6 hours. Stop for a meal on the way and you are closer to 8 hours. Stop to shop and you're at least 10 hours. What kind of time would you have to visit Charleston?
I wouldn't take this kind of group trip for a 2 day trip. 3 day trip? Yes. Drive to Charleston, day in Charleston, drive home. But you're suggesting a 5 to 8 hour driving day that doesn't allow you time to SEE Charleston. The Blue Willow is a very good suggestion, but it's just about an hour from Atlanta off I-20. |
The outlet mall in Charleston is not worth taking time from Charleston.
