Atlanta Airport Layout/Transfer
Delta changed our flights for tomorrow, 7/30 today! We have approximately 40 minutes to move from Concourse D (eta 10:19) to Concourse A (etd 11:02) Do any Fodorites have "hints" on how to navigate through ATL and have a chance of reaching our departure gate in time to board? We are healthy adults and can move fast.
Thanks..and happy travels. |
I should have added that I checked the terminal map online, but my very old Windows 98 won't load the file for me to view ATL's layout.

Not a problem. The train is very quick and frequent. And if Delta to Delta flight - even better.
|
If your first flight is running late and you really need to hoof it, you'll have to push past people on the escalator to get down to the train. Unfortunately there is no understanding of "stand on the right, walk on the left" at ATL. Once on the train, it's about 5-6 minutes from D to A.
If your first flight is on time, you'll have plenty of time. |
Are you able to see this map? http://www.delta.com/traveling_check..._atl/index.jsp
In any case, the concourses are laid out parallel to each other with a train that runs through the center of each concourse. It goes T-A-B-C-D-E. From your arrival gate, walk towards the center of that concourse (there will be signs), go downstairs, take the train to whatever concourse your flight departs from, go upstairs and walk to your departure gate. Double check your departure gate on arrival. Good luck! |
I'll add that each concourse is a straight line strip of gates, so when you get off your plane, you'll have only 2 directions you can go. The escalators down to the train are in the middle of each concourse - follow the signs that say "To Concourses A,B,C,E and Baggage Claim". When you get to the center of the concourse, take the escalator that says "To Concourses A,B,C and Baggage Claim".

I would check to see the seat status of later flights going to your final destination. If there are a lot open they can just put you on the next flight if necessary.
If not - you may want to consider an earlier flight out - if there is one. they should let you do that for free since they have just made this change. |
