ATL airport... time between gates
Hi
My family are arriving in to gate E2 at Atlanta Hartsfield Airport, with Delta Airlines from London. They need to connect with a domestic flight leaving from gate A10 down to Orlando. Do you think they would need to clear customs in Atlanta, before getting on their connecting flight? Also, is it far from E2 to A10? Is there just one terminal? Thanks in advance Rachel |

E is international terminal, and there is no terminal farther from E than A. If you go to website above, they give you all sorts of info. Although I do not personally have experience connecting from international to domestic flight at this airport, I would not feel comfortable with anything less than 2 hours. |
Yes, they will have to clear customs in Atlanta.

The times I have flown into ATL from Europe and connected to a domestic flight, I had to clear customs in Atlanta, claim my luggage and re-check it. The luggage claiming and re-checking is done in the same area so it is not as time consuming as it sounds. Traveling from one terminal to another (by train) is quick and easy.

Hi
Yes they will definately be required to clear customs before going to their connecting flight. After going through immigration, they will proceed to baggage claim to pick up checked luggage, then clear customs and recheck any checked baggage. They will then have to go through another security line (shoes off, etc) before being able to proceed to the domestic concourses. If you checked your luggage on the international portion, you must recheck your luggage before proceeding to the domestic concourses (i.e you can't carry it on for the domestic flight, if you checked it on the international portion) (If you really want to do domestic carry on, remove your checked luggage tag BEFORE you exit the customs area. Of course this only works if your luggage is of a suitable carry-on size) Hope this helps |
Uhg. I loathe ATL because it takes so long!
Plan on two hours minimum. |
I think we had about 1.5 hr one time between terminals in Atlanta when coming in from Europe and it was barely enough time - especially when you aren't familiar w/ the terminal layout or have a lot of baggage.
