At JFK from terminal 7 (IN) to terminal 4 (OUT): fastest path?

Hello everyone!
I would need to know how to get from the terminal 7 after arriving from Dallas to the terminal 4 to take a flight to Ireland. I'm asking this because I probably have "just enough" time and knowing my way would really help.

The two flights are unrelated (one with US Airways and the other one is with Aer Lingus) so I'll (probably) have to go through the security again.

I think I'll have to do this, please correct me if I'm wrong:
- get off the plane
- pick up my bags
- go to the terminal 4 (how?)
- check in my bags
- go through the security
- reach the gate
- get on the plane (hopefully!)

Details (if you want them):
September 29th
DFW-JFK = US 374
JFK-DUB = EI 104

Thank you for reading!

Take the AirTrain that connects all the terminals.

Sorry--that link is more about the AirTrain connections to Manhattan. However, the JFK terminals are arranged in a circle and linked by the AirTrain. If you stay within the airport to transfer from one terminal to another (and don't go to one of the subway stations) the AirTrain is free. There are a few different routes, two that circle the airport in opposite directions, and two others that circle the airport and then leave the airport and head to different subway/train stations.

Here's a link to the brochure that shows the different routes:

(To get from terminal 7 to terminal 4, the yellow route would be best.)

Exactly how long do you have to make the ongoing flight? What time does your incoming flight arrive (the later in the day the better the chance it will be late.) What is the late record of your incoming flight?

JFK is in the process of redoing one runway and I believe late incomings are worse than usual.

IMHO if you have less than 3 hours from wheels down to take off you may miss the ongoing flight - esp if luggage takes a while to get to the carousel (a 50/50 chance). Have you checked if US Air will check your luggage through?

I think you have plenty of time, unless there is a major weather disruption. USAir 374 is a direct flight from DFW to JFK, with a stopover in Charlotte. Yes, it's a direct, but not a non-stop flight. It arrives at 3pm. Your EI flight is 5:45 departure. EI Checkin closes at 45min before departure, or 5pm.

Isn't the JFK runway rebuild done? I thought I read about that in July.

Regarding the AirTrain, ellenem is correct - it's the yellow route on the map, but be aware, nothing about the actual trains is color coded. The trains that circle within the airport run clockwise around the airport are always on the track on the side facing away from the terminal. There are sign boards that will say "all terminals" and verbal announcements. There are often red coated assistants + many helpful fellow passengers. If you have any questions just ask somebody and they'll make sure you get on the right train.

You should be able to check your bags all the way through to Dublin, even if the tickets are not connected. Just give your EI flight info to the USAir checkin. You should also show your USAIr baggage claim tickets when you checkin with EI to make sure they have them in their system.

You will definitely have to go through security, but T4 is pretty efficient.

Checking the usual times it seems that the US flight usually lands at 2:40pm (~20 mins early) and that the EI takes off past 6pm ( http://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/EIN104 ) so I probably have plenty of time.
About the bags I'll try contacting both EI and USAir, but that would scare me! I believe it would increase the chance of the bag getting lost, wouldn't it? But I suppose it'd be cheaper to lose a $250 bag rather than having to buy a $500 ticket after I lose the plane.

Thank you so much for all the info! It's really appreciated!

If you miss your plane you wouldn't have to pay $500 for a ticket. You would have to buy a whole new ticket at the walk up rate - much higher.

It sounds like you have enough time - but if you can manage not to pick up and recheck your luggage that would make life much easier (as usual always pack one change of clothes in your carry-on).

Just pick-up your luggage. Take the airtrain on Track #2 get off at terminal #4.easy

You are cutting it close. BTW it is irrelevant if the plane usually takes off late. Check-in times close according to scheduled departure times not real departure times. I would try to reschedule one of those flights. It is a combination I would never do.
bTW the runway makover was completed, as someone said, in the early summer.

You still have security to go through for the outbound flight. Good Luck!

Knowing JFK, and problems with late flights, I would doubt that you will make your second flight. Is there any way you can get an earlier flight into JFK? Your window is just too small, and if there is any delay at all anywhere outgoing, or weather related or traffic slowdown, or whatever. To be sure, get an earlier flight it at all possible.

Well, I ended up missing it for a delay. No, not a 60 mins delay, a 7 hours one. But luckily I had got my bag checked through all the way to Rome, it even got there before me through a US Airways flight.
Thanks for all the infos! Case closed =P
