Aspen real estate
Someone told me last night that an average home in Aspen is $2 million, thanks to all the celebrities wanting a piece of the city over the years. Is this true??? What is considered average?
|
Aspen real estate is very very expensive. I'm sure that is not exaggerating in the least to say that most homes there are $2 million and up.
|
hi offlady, well you made me curious so i did a quick search. it would seem safe to say that while there are a few homes available for under $2 most are more like $4 and $10 or more is hardly unheard of...
if you're moving i bet a lot of fodorites would come visit. |
I've been going to Aspen for over 20 years and prices have always been high during that time (relative to other areas of the country). At least eight years ago the average home price was $1.9 million. I really haven't seen anything that cheap for a long time. Condos can't even be found for much less than a million.
My brother had a friend whose family sold their vacation home on Aspen Mountain about 15 years ago for $19 million and a few years later I saw the property listed for $31 million. While there are a number of clebs who vacation and own property in Aspen they are minor players compared to just ridiculously wealthy folks that own there. Also, the strength of the Euro to the dollar has made the town more affordable and attractive to an international crowd. Regular working people (white collar professionals) who used to live in Aspen have moved on to the more affordable town of Basalt down the road but even towns within an hour of Aspen have gotten pretty expensive. |
Hi Folks,
I sell Real Estate here in Whistler, BC, so I follow the Aspen market a bit, and the average home price there is now around $4 million. Even here in Whistler, our average price is $2 million (cdn). The top ski resorts rival waterfront and island properties for the highest prices in North America. Cheers, Al |
And, you should see what $2 million buys in Aspen. Not much. More like a fixer-upper. "Aspen real estate" is an oxymoron-- nothing is real about it. Not that we don't love Aspen, just kicking ourselves over passing up opportunities back in the day, when a hundred THOUSAND would get you a nice place there.
