Have you seen the reviews on Trip Advisor? Interesting mix of either 1 or 5 ratings, mostly ones. I haven't stayed there myself, so I can't speak directly, but I remembered the name from reading the reviews from the impassioned, angry guests!

tekwriter, I appreciate your posting the Trip Advisor reviews. Don't think we will be going there!! We are looking for a place in Colorado to take our children and grandchildren for a family vacation next summer. There will be 11 of us and since we (grandma and grandpa) will be paying for everything we are looking for a place that won't cost $20,000 for a week! More like $10,000 or less. We are also concerned about the altitude since 3 of the children have asthma and we don't want them to have any respiratory problems. So would prefer places below 7500 ft. elevation. Any ideas anyone? Thank you |
No problem...I have quickly scratched this ranch off of my list of possible 2008 vacation spots.
I am looking for someplace that would keep 2 families (5 kids ranging from 5-12) happy for about 7 days (very flexible). One family coming from the midwest and the other coming from California. We have both spent ample time in each home state and would like to try something different. We are leaning toward Arizona or possibly Hawaii...any suggestions would be welcomed. |
Dear Tigerpaw,
You should look into The Snow Mountain Ranch which has cabins that can hold rather large families as well as smaller 3-4 bedroom cabins that can be rented next to each other. The only thing is they book up rather quickly and one needs to have a YMCA membership. My inlaws joined the year they wanted to take us all there. So with 5 families and numerous grandchildren they gave us all some wonderful memories with our children. There are activiites for all ages and the elevation is relatively low. |
marksfour,
I have contacted Snow Mountain Ranch, but they made it seem as though even if we joined this year we would probably not get accomodations because they use a lottery system and those who have been members the longest get first choice. We spent many summer vacations camping there when our children were young. It is a great place and that was my first choice for next summer, but I was discouraged after talking to them about our chances of getting a cabin or lodge rooms. They said we wouldn't even know until the end of March if we could get in. What month did your family go? So were your inlaws were able to get their first choice of cabins even though they had just joined that same year? Maybe we should go ahead and try that and just take a chance on losing the $200.00 membership charge if we don't get in. Or the other option would be the 2nd. lottery for accomodations which takes place in April for nonmembers after the members have their choice in the March drawing. Did you use their meal plan? If so, how was the food. Thanks for your information. |
I realize you specified Colorado. Sorry, I can't help you with a guest ranch there, but since you haven't found what you are looking for yet....will you consider Idaho? We spent a week at the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch and I have nothing but praise and raves for it. The accomodations are comfortable and clean, the food was outstanding, the area is gorgeous, the staff is first rate and they have a children's program. Highly recommended.

cmcfong,
Thanks for the recommendation. I looked at their website and it looks like a very nice place and at a lower elevation like we are looking for. But, since we will be coming from central IL. we are looking for something that would be only a 2 day drive for us. Otherwise I would definately check further into this ranch. Thanks |
Sorry it doesn't work for you, tigerpaw. I definitely see your point on travel time!

tigerpaw,
wow it has been some time since I've replied to the post...sorry I didn't check back and give you a reply back in 07! Where did you end up staying? And sorry for the rather lengthy delay but to answer your question (too late I know!)we always went in late July/early August. I do know it got harder and harder to get a cabin or 2 as each year went by. |
