Aspen in the Fall?

We have never been to CO but have been offered a place to stay for a week in Aspen near the end of September and I am looking for ideas for our trip. Is that too long to spend in one place? Is there anything going on at that time of year? What is close by to see/do by day trip or should we plan to spend a few days elsewhere? Maybe combine with flying in/out of Denver? What golf is available close to Aspen? We'd love to play at least twice. What are the temps usually that time of year? Is it possible to do a float trip, maybe small rapids? Too cold? We're not big hikers but the scenery sounds wonderful. Thanks for your help.

Beautiful time of year in CO--almost any time is!!. The weather will be quite cool at night, sunny, sunny days.Bring lots of layers. If you are fisher people, fly fishing is gorgeous. The hot springs are nearby. Picnicking in the high high areas above Aspen.

You won't even be able to make a dent in all the restaurants you want to try in a week. There's loads to do in Aspen and the end of Sept. is likely to be beautiful. Float trips will depend on water level by that time. There are plenty of operations that will arrange you if it's possible.

A drive to the Maroon Bells is indeed a must do. Also, drive up Independence Pass. Take some time to explore the little ghost town along the way.

You're also likely to find a music or food festival in September. There are golf courses, horseback riding, even hot air balloon rides. Enjoy!

A free place to stay in Aspen for a week? What a nice offer. Aspen is beautiful. So much to do there. September will probably be clear and dry, getting cool at night. Bring layers, as we always say. Google it to see the weather stats.

Check Aspen's website to see if there are any festivals going on in September. You can always drive to Glenwood Springs to visit the hot springs, if you need a day-trip.

We used Colorado Whitewater for our raft trip last time, and they were very good. More personal and smaller groups, located right in Aspen downtown. Contact them about September trips, because they might be shuttling a long way to find water that time of year. Not sure it would be worth the long commute.
Have fun!
