Aspen change in Crested Butte

I'm traveling to CB the week of 9/22 and wanted to get an update on the aspen color in the area. Anyone travel in this area lately to give me a report? Where are the best places in CO to see The Aspn color? Thank you!

I *think* next week may be early. With the heavy rains, I am also thinking a lot of leaves have come down without turning.

You can go to the skicb.com and look at their web cams to see what the leaves look like on the mountain. They also have a guy named Robb who does the cam of the day. it's misleading. He takes photos of the area and posts his musings on what's going on and wildlife and scenery around the valley. He hasn't mentioned anything about changing colors recently.

From this weeks photos of Rocky Mountain National Park there has been no change. From a friend who was just hiking in the Breckenridge area--no change.

DH was in Winter Park this weekend.
The aspen are barely starting to turn there.
No rain damaged the leaves.

Glad to read the leaves remain in place. I was pretty sure next week was too early.

Hi there, This is Erica from the PR department at the ski resort in Crested Butte. I think this weekend will still be a little early for the Aspens. You can also keep your eye on our foliage changing on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/skicrestedbutte We had a little snow on the peaks last night and it's getting chillier at night, so things should start changing to yellow pretty quickly. Although, there are some clumps of yellow now. I hope that helps. If you ever have question, please feel free to contact us directly through Facebook or by email at [email protected] or [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you in the Butte!!
Erica

Thanks, Erica. I was looking for this kind of information, too.

A side question here: How late in Oct would you take the hike from Crested Butte to Aspen? If you got snow on the peak I wonder if the trail is getting light snow.

Tough to call at this point, but any snow has already melted off. Mid-October is usually a good rule of thumb, but it will change from year to year. Still about a week away from peak foliage here, but there are spots that are changing pretty rapidly already.

If you're looking for specific trail or drive suggestions check this out: http://travelcrestedbutte.com/creste...lors-colorado/ My guess is the latter half of the week will be best.

I'll continue posting photos of the foliage as I check out a bunch of different trails on the instagram page here: http://instagram.com/travelcrestedbutte

Hope this helps! Cheers,

Josh
