Asiate/Open Table ? (before I make a fool of myself)

So I tried to use Open Table to make a reservation for a Friday lunch at Asiate, for 1, just me. There were no tables available until the next day.

Then, I changed the number of people to "2" and lo, I got a reservation.

Do they not do reservations for 1? Should I tell them before or when I show up that it's just me?

Open Table tables are pretty limited - we've had issues like this when we reserve for three - in the past I've made the reservation thru open table for the points, then called the restaurant to correct the number - it's never been a problem.

Correct. Open Table does not do reservations for 1 person. But as mp states, they have access to a very few tables in the restaurant, so you can always call the restaurant itself to get the reservation.

Since Asiate has no bar (in the restaurant), it's harder to just walk in, though I also doubt that the restaurant would be fully booked for lunch during the middle of winter, though that's possible.

Thank you. Fodors rocks.

I travel for business weekly and use Open Table when I can....always for one person. Haven't had a problem yet!

Maybe it depends on the city?

I'm going to back off of my original statement a bit because I think EmilyC has a point. I've only used OpenTable in NYC.

It may be that many restaurants in NYC (perhaps the majority) don't take reservations for 1 person through the service. I may very well have been wrong with my original statement.

Just for fun I went to OpenTable and NYC for tonite for one person and I got 685 choices including Asiate

So it was probably just the day the OP wanted to make a reservation.

I agree...

I do wish that Open Table would allow the 1000 points if you are only one person......hate that!!

No, her point was there were NO tables for 1 but if she changed the reservation for 2, there were. It's possible they set aside certain tables for only 1 and those weren't available. Have no idea. Remember it's restaurant week next week and the week after and things are filling up.
