Asheville's Best Millkshake

Where is it? The Biltmore Dairy Bar was closed on my last visit, Boo Hoo. Many happy memories gone for good. I need a new place.

anyone??????

Responding to your question is impossible without trying every possible place for a milkshake in Asheville. I doubt if anyone has done that.

Curious, perhaps the original poster would like suggestions for places serving good milkshakes and is being literal. But hey, that's just a thought. And do you know where the best place is to get a chill pill? I suggest you head on over there.

orangetravelcat Mar 24th, 2007 11:06 AM

oops - meant not being literal.

gophereverette Apr 11th, 2007 09:46 AM

Literally, figuratively, or any other way, the best shake in town is the Diner at Woolworth Walk on Haywood Street downtown. A close second is The Hop on Merrimon Ave (US 25). The Hop is open seven days a week, the Diner at W.W. is closed on Tuesdays.

Thanks for the recommendations, gophereverette. Have you tried Ultimate Ice Cream on Tunnel Road? What's your opinion?

gophereverette Apr 21st, 2007 07:14 PM

I've been to ultimate for ice cream a couple times, bit not in the past two years. I haven't had their milk shakes, but if they are better than Woolworth Walk, I'm gonna gain about 50 pounds this summer!

Well, let me know what you think!

Jed May 12th, 2007 04:55 PM

I just came back from Asheville, and can attest that the the reports of the demise of the Biltmore Ice Cream Parlor are premature. I had a chocolate milkshake ($4.75) and can confidently, without hesitation or qualification, report that it was delicious. ((*))

Thanks, Jed. After finding it closed, I didn't go back to inquire if it had reopened.

BetsyinKY May 13th, 2007 06:05 AM

Jed's link is to the ice cream parlor that is actually on the Biltmore estate. Is that the same one you were thinking of cmcfong? Unless you have a season pass, that would be an awfully expensive milkshake, by the time you pay to get into the estate!

cmcfong May 13th, 2007 08:39 AM

Well, bless my soul, Betsy, I didn't follow the link assuming Jed had tested the old Biltmore Dairy Bar which used to be in the building where TGIF is located near the front gate to the Estate. You are right, that would be one expensive milkshake......

Jed May 13th, 2007 11:33 AM

Mea culpa :-[

cmcfong May 13th, 2007 01:26 PM

You are forgiven if you can tell me where the best milkshake is on the North Island of New Zealand.

Jed May 14th, 2007 08:00 AM

I will report back on that after my next trip to NZ, in my next life. Stay tuned. ;;)
