Asheville NC / Smokies Area (Fall Colour)
Hi
I understand lower areas are USUALLY best for to see fall colours in above area in LAST WEEK of OCTOBER. Assuming my understanding is correct, (AND Mother Nature plays ball !) which areas would you visit with the proviso of NO HIKING? Cheers |
Peak varies each year. Anywhere in the Smokies will be great the last week of October. Asheville is great. Trails are everywhere but you don't have to hike any of them.
|
For the higher elevations mid-October is usually the target for peak. Depends on rain, etc.
|
I think you risk missing peak at the end of October. I think 2nd or 3rd weekend would be a better bet. 3rd or 4th weekend in Oct is usually peak down here in Charlotte. But as said above, it depends on the weather.

I agree. I live in the foothills and our peak is around Halloween (October 31). The colors usually peak in the mountains about two or three weeks before us.
Norfolk.. Many people enjoy the colors without hiking by driving the Blue Ridge parkway. Check before you finalize your plans because it closes periodically because of conditions/weather. It is closed to outside traffic so it is a very peaceful drive. You can access the Blue Ridge parkway in Asheville. It is busy on weekends. If you can plan your journey midweek it will be more enjoyable. |
