Asheville, NC in December

I am thinking of traveling to Asheville the first week of December. How is the weather during this time? This will be my first trip to this lovely town, and to North Carolina for that matter. The time seems to be between seasons, so I am just wondering. Is it worth driving the Blue Ridge Parkway or doing any hiking? Are all the leaves gone by then?

I would like to stay downtown and have read some recommendations for hotels...however, are there any B&Bs located in the heart?

Much appreciated.

Take a look at what schlegal1 said about Asheville Weekend trip report. You will be able to get good info there.

We visited Asheville two years ago in February. We were driving home from FL and I had always wanted to see the Biltmore Estates. So off course we went to Asheville. The weather can be cold and snowy because it's in the mountains. Lodging rates are very inexpensive that time of year because it's not high tourist season. I am not sure about Dec. though. The Blue Ridge Parkway is sometimes closed because of the snow and ice. You can probably check out Blue Ridge Parkway website and it will give you some weather info.

We loved seeing the Biltmore Estate - very interesting place to visit. It will take a solid 2+ hours (maybe longer depending upon how extensively you want to visit each room). There are restaurants right there and there is a winery on site also but it's not near the Estate, you need to drive out to it. They will have wine tastings and you can purchase wine there also. The property is in a beautiful venue.

Do a search here on TA for hotels and recommendations. I am sure there are B&B's also. I do not think you would see any foliage either as it will be winter.

We loved our visit to Asheville and hope you do too!

I drove that section of the Blue Ridge Parkway a few weeks ago. The leaves will be gone, and I don't think there will be much point in doing that drive in December.

Asheville, on the other hand, was a cool town, and it should be worth visiting in any season.

the Biltmore at Christmas is fabulous and well worth a visit. I just hiked the northern Blue Ridge today and found to my shock the visitors center closed (Cumberland Gap). The leaves will most certainly be gone by December. Lots going on in Asheville in December. Be sure and stop by the Grove Park to see the decorations!
