Katie, I was just glancing around the website for the Asheville visitor's bureau and discovered that both of the guidebooks I recommended to you are available through their "Gift Shop" link, if you're interested.

By the way... it's "The Underground Asheville Guidebook."

I hope you have a wonderful time during your visit here! Please post a trip report!

Hello Everyone! We've booked a room at the Baymont for a Monday through Friday stay at $67/night for a standard room with one King bed. Does this sound like a reasonable price? HauntedHeadNC-thanks for the book info, we'll order one through the Asheville site. We looked in some local chain stores like Barnes and Noble and they didn't have anything specific to that area. I was able to get "Hidden Carolina" at our local library-it seems to be very helpful and filled with info. We're now working on our itinerary so we'll probably have some more questions.

Thanks, Katie

When you've got more questions, bring 'em on.

Meanwhile, $67 a night is a very reasonable rate, especially for a Baymont so close to all the action and for the time you'll be here.

Katie....how/where did you get such a great rate at Baymont? I've searched several web sites and the best I could get was $108/night on AARP rate. I was checking for mid-week in mid-October....maybe that is a more expensive time? I'd sure like to get your rate.

Martha: my husband called the hotel and they quoted $74/night he then asked for the best rate-AAA, Delta FF miles, etc. They then quoted the $67/night rate and said it was a manager's special. We also called the Double Tree and got a rate of $108/night for the same dates, so we choose the Baymont. Both Travelocity and Expedia had rates of $74. I think the hotels are more expensive in the Fall because it it a popular area to view the leaves.

Katie

No, Haunted, not the custard place, it's an actual pastry (cakes mainly) shop.

Yep... hotels in this area are most expensive through the summer and in October, because that's our high season. Katie, your rate at the Baymont is a bargain!

And Litespeed, why not just look it up? ;-)

www.grovearcade.com

True Confections !! ( I told you it was a cutesy name)

Give it a try, it's pretty good, and according to one of the staff, the owner has worked in the food service industry for many years and has now realized "her dream". I hope it goes well for her.
