Has anyone stayed at the Walnut Inn Bed and Breakfast in Asheville? Any comments would be appreciated.

This may be next to useless to you,
but if you're talking about the Black
Walnut Inn, I've only driven by it and never stayed there.

If it is the Black Walnut Inn, it is in
the Montfort area of north Asheville.
This is an older neighborhood, but many
of the homes have been remodeled. It
is about 2 miles from downtown (and many nice restaurants, the Civic Center, the Urban Trail, etc.). It
is only about a mile from where I work,
so let me know if there is anything specific about the B&B you want to
know, and I'll try to find out.

Thanks for the information. What I really want to know is what is the best place to stay in Asheville? I am looking for an upscale place, something really luxurious. I prefer a nice neighborhood, someplace where I can walk around and have some stores to browse and cafes to people watch. Is there such a place in or around Asheville? I'd love some information.

Most people agree the best places to stay in Asheville are the Grove Park Inn and the Inn at Biltmore. If you're
set on a B&B, we have too many to count, but I can't think of one that meets your requirements (other than price :-))


The Grove Park Inn is in a residental neighborhood and has some small shops and (only one?) cafe.

The Inn at Biltmore is on the Biltmore Estate. Just off the estate is Biltmore Village. You'll have to drive to get there - maybe 15 minutes - but I think it meets your needs for cafes, shops, and people.

I just spent a couple of days at the Inn on Biltmore Estate. It's lovely, very relaxing, and would get a little dull after 3 days -- dining & shopping options are limited on property, and it's about a 15-minute drive to downtown and all the shopping/dining there. I've not stayed in B&B downtown, but did stay at Renaissance in March. It's comfortable & convenient to everything downtown, and I would probably stay there again.

If you're looking for a top-notch dining experience, try Savoy -- it was excellent. Also see my pre-trip post (I'll top it for you) for other restaurant suggestions. Asheville is a great small city; have a fine time!!

There's always Timberwolf Creek here in Maggie Valley. :)

I know, I know, a shameless plug, but I do love this place!
