Showed this to DH who said "hmmmmm ..... let's go to the top end of our $100/night, who don't we?" Thought this sounded a little TOO "economical", ya know?
So, do y'all know anything about the Country Inn & Suites on Brevard & what that's near? |
Ah, happy to speak to "cheap" in Asheville. living 45 minutes away, we are often struck w/ guilt for doing overnights, and try to find the biggest bargain. Thoughts:
Best Western in downtown is a good location at a bargain price. The rooms are a little shabby, however. I've seen peeling wallpaper, old bedspreads, etc. But not too bad, I'll stay there again. It's right across the street from the overpriced Renaissance. Mountaineer: Only if you're looking for an adventure. We stayed there once when we naively thought the peek leaf season was over, and discovered that the even the Mountaineer was $75. The owner was super-nice...still, it's a little creepy, I would stay there again maybe, but not until I exhausted other options. Fairfield Inn on 191 across from Biltmore Square. We stayed there a couple of weeks ago. I had a walk-in coupon from Roomsavers.com which they honored even though they had very few rooms left. I got if for $65, they quoted $89 to the people checking in next to me. It was pretty nice - clean, decent bedding, good work-out room, indoor pool, free breakfast. I would recommend it. Country INn and Suites is right next door. I have not stayed in that hotel, but I stay in that chain for business in Mass all the time and it's always very nice. There is a Day's Inn in downtown which you need to be aware is a crack house. Beware Days Inn on Patton Ave. Good Luck! |
What happened to the Holiday Inn Sunspree?
|
The Holiday Inn Sunspree is now a Crown Plaza. We got a night there about a month ago thru priceline for $65. Nice renovation and comfortable beds. Restaurant was ok...we got our dinner bought because they were so flippin slooooooooooooow. And, we are not complainers, but DH, said, we are going to Hardee's so we can get fed!!!

I've stayed in the Honeymoon Suite at The Mountaineer before! We couldn't resist a motel with a giant neon hillbilly out front.
Is the Renaissance Hotel still on Priceline? Check www.biddingfortravel.com. I know it used to come up cheap pretty often. |
And what happened the the Comfort Inn River Ridge one exit away from Tunnel Rd? We used to stay there with our pet and thought it was a decent deal. I notice it's not listed on the Choice Hotels website anymore.
When we're not with our pet we stay at the BestWestern downtown. Agree it's old and faded and the breakfast is worthless, but the rooms are above average size and being able to walk to downtown restaurants/bars is priceless. |
Yay to Litespeed & others! Great tip on the "Roomsavers" website; never heard of that, so I'll check it out.
And yeah, I'd read some not-so-positive comments about the Best Western & really bad stuff about the Days Inn - thanks for the reminders! OK, so y'all think location & comfort-wise that the Country & Fairfield Inns are good? We've stayed at Fairfields all over & are always pleased w/them, so we'll look into that also. Thanks again, y'all - will let ya know how it turns out! |
