Art in Chicago

Has anyone done a walking tour of the outdoor sculpture of Chicago? I would like suggestions on doing this--- what shouldn't be missed. Really, any advise about seeing art in Chicago would be appreciated. Galleries??? We are planning a 4 day visit to Chicago in August. We will of course be visiting the Art Institute. Is the Terra Museum of American Art worth visiting?

The Chicago Architecture Foundation offers a Loop Sculpture tour. Info can be found at
http://www.architecture.org/tours_2.html#45

If their dates aren't convenient, you could pick up a guide book on sculpture at their shops - either 220 S. Michigan, across from the Art Institute, or in the Hancock building, 875 N. Michigan.

The Terra Museum is interesting (mostly early American art); it will take only part of a day. Also take in the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is only a couple of blocks away.

Just returned from Chicago a few weeks ago and went to the Terra Museum. I enjoyed it immensely! They currently have a photographic exhibit of New york Noir pictures. It was interesting. A lot of their permanent gallery was currently on loan although the pieces they did have were good. It's worth a couple of hours (I was in and out within two hours). I agree about the Architecture Foundation - they also have a good boat tour of the buildings as well that's interesting. Plus, Chicago has street art right now - sort of like the cows from a couple of years ago; it's furniture this year.

I would second the architectural boat tour; it was pretty, interesting and informative. I have also taken the Architectural Foundation's walking tour of the Loop, and found that interesting as well.
