Arriving NYC tomorrow--should I pack my woolies?
We're leaving tomorrow from sunny California for five days in New York City. Should I pack all my wool sweaters, gloves, scarf, and my heavy coat? It looked kind of chilly this morning on the Today show.
It dropped below freezing the last two nights. I am glad I didn't pack away my woolies. According to weather.com you weather should be high of 50 low of 40. If you plan on seeing the city via foot, I would pack a warm coat as the buildings block the sunshine.
Yes, we expect to do lots of walking, provided it's not raining. Has it been windy too? The wind is what really cuts through me.
JeanneE, take your gloves and scarf. Even if it's not snowing (which it shouldn't be) wrap the scarf around your neck to keep out the cold & the wind, it will make a huge difference on how warm you'll feel.
It'll be a high in the 50s all week. 40s at night. Windy.
Jeanne, we'll be waiting for your trip report when you get back! :-)
OK, you people have this week and next to bring in spring. I don't want to have to take a heavy coat on the 18th to then lug all over Europe for the summer. So let's get that weather shaped up, OK?
So, I've got this really heavy, warm wool coat that weighs a ton and goes down below my knees and a knee-length, insulated raincoat-type thing that I can get away with on a California-style cold winter day. With wool pants, sweater, scarf and a knitted hat it's fine for out here. Do you think that will work this week in New York or should I bring the blanket-coat?
40s-50s, but pretty windy and still cool. If you have a sports jacket Columbia/NorthFace type lined with a fleece or or similar, you should be okay. Sweaters, scarf if you tend to get cold. Think layers.
Jeanne, I don't want to hijack you post, but I wanted to ask Patrick if he would be "Posting From The Road" during his upcoming European trip?
And Jeannie, please do post a report of your NYC visit when you return. Have a great time! |
Good lord people, this is New York in April - not the antartic! And its been a little chilly the last few nights. but it will be in the 50's - way too warm for gloves, scarf or heavy winter coat. If you have a raincoat you can layer things underneath you should be plenty warm.. Or if you have a leather jacket that would be fine (I don;t wear mine if the temp goes above 50 because its too warm).
