Around the World in a Balloon

Congratulations to Steve Fossett for circling the world along in a balloon. I believe he's the first person to do so. This should inspire all of us to get out and see more of the world.

Dr. Head Jul 2nd, 2002 08:02 AM

Yes, congrats indeed to a self absorbed tycoon who can't find anything more worthwhile to spend his money on than to expand an already stretched ego by doing something completely meaningless.

God forbid this stuffed shirt should do something like travel to other parts of the world that have unspeakable troubles, and use his position of strenght to bring resolve to those less fortunate than him.

I'm sure he'll have a huge self congratulatory party for himself and all of his self absorbed friends.

Cheers!

Didn't Piccard and Jones do this in the Breitling balloon in a few years back?
ncgrrl Jul 2nd, 2002 09:20 AM

Piccard and Jones did the trek a few years back. Fossett is the first solo (and in an unpressurized gondola).

Dr. Head, Steve Fossett can spend HIS money any way HE sees fit.

Jim Jul 2nd, 2002 09:24 AM

Ncgrl,
Quite right. But don't expect to hear back from Dr. Head -- he's probably out fixing all the world's problems and giving his money away to charity ...

Faina Jul 2nd, 2002 09:43 AM

I'd say: it's Dr Head(less) who is self-absorbed!

Louis Jul 2nd, 2002 09:44 AM

Dr. Head hit the nail on the head.

Wow, what a feat, Fossett sat in a tiny compartment for several days while the winds pushed him around the world. I'm SO impressed.

And to what purpose? To inflate his ego plain and simple.

This wasn't Lindberg establishing a means of travel between two great areas of the world.

This was a cigarette boat race in a balloon.

This is how men behave when they have more dollars than sense.

Don't be so familiar with Dr. Head. You're leaving our his full name - U. H. Ass. Such a negative nattering nabob, he is. This guy has a zippo life and massive ego problems. No suprise he's such a negativo.

Dr. Head Jul 2nd, 2002 10:18 AM

Thank you, Louis. I'm glad to see that there are others here who have the ability to see past the gloss.

Now a really impressive solo trip would have been, say, Thor Hyrdahl (sp?) floating from Peru to the Polynesian islands on a hand made reed raft. That was truly daring, and had scientific significance.

x Jul 2nd, 2002 10:29 AM

Gee, Dr. Head-o, ironic YOU should mention significance. You problem with the balloon trip is precisely what (oh, come on and embarrass yourself some more!).

Dr. Head Jul 2nd, 2002 10:40 AM

Since I was simply expressing MY opinion, and not being rude or vulger, and I am being attacked, who is out of line here? If you don't agree with me, that's fine, but at least retort. Weak side verbal attacks are so sophmoric.

Oh, and x...speak E-N-G-L-I-S-H. Your post is so butchered, I need an interpreter to understand it. You should have stayed in school.

Kameha Jul 2nd, 2002 11:18 AM

My oh my, such viciousness!
I have to say I agree toatlly with Dr. Head.
Who cares that with all that money and after five tries Fossett was able to finally achieve his goal of circling the globe in a balloon. He could have been remembered for truly something significant if all that money went to help others. And, yes, of course, it's his money and he earned it (maybe)...but it was a major waste of money.

x Jul 2nd, 2002 11:26 AM

Butchered english. Dr. Head? Butchered logic more likely. What's with you folks - why so upset because someone with resources elects to spend them on a flight? Ppossibly you'd prefer he'd given it to charity or some worthy cause. Just possibly a touch of envy there perhaps? Relax, don't be upset - it's his money to spend any way he chooses. Why gripe about something that's entirely none of your affair?
