I am planning a trip to Arizona next March. I'm wondering what the weather is like in March. We will be all over the place: Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Sedona and Scottsdale. How much will the weather differ from place to place? <BR>Thanks.

Jane, we have been in Arizona twice during the month of March. Once it was raining in Scottsdale and very cold, last March it was hot in Phoenix/Scottsdale, lovely in Sedona and very cold and windy at the Grand Canyon south rim. Think you need to layer a lot and check closer to your departure date. The above suggestion is a great site, however.

There is a broad range of temperatures in Arizona any time of the year. It can vary by as much as 30-50 degrees. Warm in the Phoenix/Tuscson area. We had beautiful 80-plus weather in late March, 1998, while up in the northern partof the state, it was much, much cooler. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon isn't even open then, I believe.

Howard, you are so right. Arizona has seven climate zones (or ecotones) and offers a wide range of temperatures during March. Much depends on the altitudes. These range from 12,600 ft. on the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff to the lower Sonoran Desert (between Phoenix and Yuma). Dress in layers, then, and you will be comfortable.

To further illustrate the temperature range: We were there in the early '90s during the record late June/early July heatwave. It was 115 to 120 in Phoenix and Sedona. When we got to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, we wore light jackets at night!
