Arizona in February
We're visiting relatives in Yucca,AZ in mid-February and for a few days prior will be hoping to visit Monument Valley and possibly Bryce Canyon. We've been led to believe that the weather is very mild by day, colder in the evening and night. What sort of daytime temperatures can we expect ? We have been investigating weather forecasts etc online and are a little concerned that the information given to us might not be as we expect.
We always rent a car and usually do our research thoroughly.. On this occasion we've relied on our relatives for weather information. Our last visit to AZ was in November, when it was very pleasant. Any information would be welcome. Thank you. |
I used to have friends on the Navajo Rez and visited one winter, ran into a hell of a snowstorm on the drive out. My suggestion would be to watch the weather forecasts closely and decide when the time comes. That's a lonely part of the world to go off the road.

Are you asking about Yucca or Monument Valley and/or Bryce? Very different replies.
Bryce will be in Winter mode: http://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/winter.htm Monument Valley may be a bit less wintery, but this year has already shown cold temps and snowy. http://www.sandstonetours.com/Monument-Valley-Climate |
Thank you very much for your responses and the links. Much food for thought.
They winter in Yucca so I'm assuming the weather is fairly clement there otherwise there would be point in their relocation. |
We went to the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago and it was cold, very cold but lovely. We dressed for cold so it wasn't bad.
There were few people there, we practically had the place to ourselves. Cold weather is relative. If there are heavy snows in your home base now, AZ will be practically tropical. (but still bring warm clothes. |
We're into week 5 of a roadtrip from CA to TX and back via AZ and NM. Temperatures have been a bit colder than normal in most of the places we've visited. We drove through a snowstorm leaving Monument Valley last month. We're in Tucson right now because some of the canyon areas we wanted to visit were closed due to snow. Keep an eye on the forecast and stay flexible.

Yes, as stated cold is relative ! We're more concerned that the places that we would like to visit will be closed. And, of course, we want to be sensible.
We have visited the western Grand Canyon and stayed in a cabin on the South Rim, but that was in November 2013. We were fortunate that the weather was bright and clear. I think that we will 'hedge our bets' and pack our mountain walking clothes !! Nothing like being prepared... Thank you everyone |
If you're in Tucson and going to be headed west, check out the Organ Pipe Cactus NM. Rt. 86 west and turn left in Why.
