Arizona driving
 

I was considering a trip to Arizona in mid October. I was thinking of doing a Phoenix to Sedona, then on to the Grand Canyon (east and west rim, heading onto to Monument Valley and then back to Phoenix.<BR><BR>What will the weather be like at that time of the year? Can you expect flooding?<BR><BR>Any help would be appreciated

You should run a search for climate and weather sites for that area in October to see averages for temp and rainfall. Anecdotally, I was in Phoenix, Sedona and the Grand Canyon in mid-October 2000. Weather was perfect, sunny every day. No rain or even clouds. Phoenix was hot during the day (mid-80s), cooler at night. Grand Canyon was in the low 70s (we wore shorts and sweaters). Very cool but not cold at night, they had a fire in the fireplace at the hotel. We even did the Glen Canyon dam raft tour and it was plenty warm enough down in the canyon (albeit it is not anyway as deep as the Grand).<BR><BR>There was no evidence of any flooding or even that there had been rainfall in the recent past. Others may have more specific information on that point.

The weather should be very nice. Are you sure you don't mean south/north rim? You really don't need to see the canyon from both sides, one is good. The south is more developed and closer to where you will be. The north is a little out of the way but more pristine.

I suspect a troll in the original post--east and west rim?--but I could be wrong. If Stu's a troll, he may think it's funny to ask if it floods in AZ, but joke's on him, b/c sometimes it does! Not in October, though, so if you're not a troll, Stu, my humble apologies, and enjoy your trip, it will be a dry one.

Mid-Oct. is usually great weather. It can flood in any month. One year in Mid-Oct, it rained 2.65&quot; one day in Phoenix (almost as much as we had in all of 2002)

We were at the Grand Canyon in early Oct. 2001 and we had beautiful weather. A thunderstorm rolled in and left the same evening. <BR><BR>In the Southwest a flash flood is always possible, but if you stay on the main roads you shouldn't have any problems.<BR><BR>On your way back from Monument Valley to Phoenix I would like to suggest stopping at Canyon de Chelly National Monument. <BR><BR>Utahtea
