Arenal - Does it matter which side you stay?

Hi,
we are deciding between hotels near La Fortuna (no lava flow view) and those further out with lava view. Does anyone have any suggestions? Don't know yet if we'll have a car. We are staying 2 nights. Thanks

With only 2 nights, there is no guarantee that you will have clear weather to observe the active volcano. But if you stay o the active side, the odds are much better. I am trying Linda Vista del Norte in January.

BTW: This was posted to the US Forum, not Latin America.

We really liked the Lost Iguana if that helps any. I would pick lava view every time; the lava shifts though, so not always predictable.

Thank you. Lost Iguana looks great but Im trying to find something a little cheaper if I can :-)

Arenal Observatory Lodge gets good reviews on the boards, also Silencio del Campo - maybe check out tripadvisor.com also. I think I posted on your other post as well.

We stayed at Lost Iguana 2 years ago and loved it there. The rooms are beautiful and we had a direct view of the volcano.

We really enjoyed the Arenal Paraiso. They have lower-priced cabins with no enclosed porches. We saw lava almost every day & night, but that was 4 years ago. I'm not sure which side the lava is flowing from now.

I'm sure you'll get lots more info on the Latin America board.
