Also easy walk to Sullivan. Both this and the one above are walk to ethnic restaurants and new bistros on Broadway and those in a union Square. |

Walk to Porter Square stop on Red line. Porter has shops, restaurants. Can walk or 1 red line stop to Davis Square, rated one of most 'happening' neighborhoods in the US. |
Interesting POV on hotel prices.
Beaches justify high prices but a massive amount of history and culture don't? If so many people didn't want to be in Boston the hotel rates would be much lower. Weird! |
Which one is easy walk or T-ride to a good New England ice cream stand?

Clarion Inn
595 North Avenue Wakefield, MA 01880 Phone: (781) 245-6100 Fax: (781) 245-2904 If u want a cheap, clean nice little place to stay no frills; this is it. About a 15min ride in by car. A great Diner right down thestreet across from the train into town. Maybe about a mile from the motel. It sits right on a lakeand has a walking path all around it. Also serves breakfast for a charge. However, I recommend the diner. If you don't mind walking to the train staton and figuring that out; you will def save money on staying here. |
My son and I found a good deal hear on one of search engines, can't remember which one: we only stayed one night.

>Which one is easy walk or T-ride to a good New England ice cream stand? :-). The one nearest Central Square is very close to the famed Toscanini's. :-) A couple of others are on a bus line that passes close to Cristina's. Yummmmmmmmmmmm......... |
Not Wakefield.
Not JP. Not Fort Hill. All have transportation issues. Not Malden or any other place where you have to take a bus to a train. A bus all the way is a different story, maybe. Maybe Embassy Suites I stayed there lots when I had early flights but for various reasons it is not easy to get into the city. It is easy to get into the city from the airport Hyatt and not bad from the Hilton, both of which can be had for about the same as the Embassy Suites on Priceline. Brookline? Easy Peasy. T Green Line to center of Park Street and beyond or 66 bus to Harvard or Brigham Circle where you change to a 39 for the MFA and Gardner and Copley. We spent two weeks in Paris in June staying in an ethnically diverse area with a lot of public housing and fairly far from the tourist areas. It was great for us because we weren't going to the tourists sites (been there done those) but it wouldn't have been all that convenient if we were trying to go to museums etc. Still not as far out as Wakefield. |
I'm still trying to puzzle out why a walk to the Green Line in Brookline is fine, but a walk to the Orange Line in JP or from Fort Hill means a "transportation issue."

location, location, location
You yourself detailed the pluses above. |
I was addressing the OP's question. As far as I can see he/she has never inquired about a property in JP. You only thought they did.
|
|
I would take the ones in Cambridge that are the closest to the train lines.
For Salem, you can also take a ferry which is fun on a beautiful day http://www.bostonharborcruises.com/salem-ferry/ |
"As far as I can see, he/she has never inquired about a property in JP."
"I have a place .....near Arboretum." said the OP. |
The Arboretum is on the JP/Roslindale border and accessed from both areas of Boston. South St. 02131 is Roslindale. No JP involved.
|
Meant to add that it's easily misunderstood, since most people understandably think of JP when they hear the Arb, and most wouldn't be familiar with zip codes unless they lived right in the area. (Those 250 acres cover a lot of ground!)
|
So you're contending that the part of South Street that runs into Center Street (near Eliot) in Jamaica Plain is actually Roslindale?
|
No that section of South St., off Centre, is in JP--02130. The OP asked about South St. 02131, which is the continuation of South St. past Forest Hills, that goes south and west of the Arb. into Roslindale. Typical Boston street confusion.
