I just got back from the Midwest (Dayton) and Park City last weekend with DS and am heading out for a long Labor Day weekend with SO to Seattle. He has never been there and I haven't been in 18 years. I made reservations at Dahlia Lounge the night we arrive and lunch at Matt's at the Market the day we leave.
Have a great time at the Open, Katie!

"They all have loved the incline railway and the cave with the nursery rhyme characters."
Don't remember the incline railway but I loved the nursery rhyme characters! We must've gone at least twice (from southern Illinois) when I was growing up. I think it still pops up in my dreams from time to time! I wasn't sure it was still there.
I wish we'd taken our kids there. But we didn't have the money to really start traveling until they were older. And then needed to cram as much as we could into a few trips so tended to go farther away. Maybe our grandkids! Thanks for bringing back fond memories, Carolyn!
As for this weekend, we're driving from the Chicago suburbs to Madison, WI. Our son is starting his second year at UW. I took him up on Wednesday but wasn't able to get all of his stuff in our car. And his dad felt bad about not being there. So we're both going up for an overnighter on Sunday. We've come to really enjoy Madison so are looking forward to our little get-away. And seeing DS, of course!

It's state fair week in our neck of the woods so traditionally we do one day of volunteer work for 4-H. I've brought paperwork home but there are chores around the house I could be doing. On Sunday DH is going "wheeling" with DS then I'll join them and friends for a bbq. Monday it's back to the fair to do fun things. Last weekend we camped at a farm museum with his antique tractor. It's helps to live in a beautiful area of the country. Is it really a staycation if other people think of our area as a destination?

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was fun reading these responses on Friday---it really put me in the mood for a few days off. =)
I had a fantastic time at the Open--it was a great LONG day of tennis. I was there from 11am to 1am!

I spent five days in Florida helping my mother get her condo ready to sell. I worked like a dog--carted 25 bags of garbage to the dumpster, took several loads to Goodwill, took itmes she thought had value to five antique shops and dragged most of it home again, spackled, painted, cleaned, did laundry, changed bedding, cooked.
To add insult to injury, I slept on the couch because opened up into a hide-a-bed it's very uncomfortable, and had to be away from my husband. Am I ever glad to be home!

Spent Labor Day weekend somewhere ELSE besides our usual trips to San Diego. We went to Carpinteria which is about 1 1/2 hours from the los angeles area.
Met several family membersat Carpinteria State Beach, barbequed and ate dinner on the beach with our toes in the sand and sadly said goodbye to summer as the sun set!

After a week of hourly checks on Gustav, we took a deep breath, and with fear and trembling headed south (from west central Alabama) to Seacrest Beach in the Florida panhandle.
Both our children and their families met us there, and the weather was beautiful!
We kayaked in the calm gulf Saturday, the kids played in the surf and boogie-boarded in the bigger waves on Sunday, and we woke Monday to see the high surf of Gustav feeder bands.
We never had any rain, so the younger generations enjoyed their bikes, too.
We worried about our neighbors to the west as they faced Gustav but enjoyed our good luck that our long-planned trip was successful.
