Are you a metronatural?

Seattle's visitors and convention bureau has adopted a new slogan for our fair city. Metronatural, "designed to highlight Seattle's rare and uniquely marketable combination of urban and outdoor experiences."

So quick, what word did you first think of when you saw that?

Time's up.

Actually Gardyloo I first read this as Metronuetral and thought it was referring to a persons sexual preference.

LOL, I saw "Metroneutral," too1

IMHO: Too cutesy and derivative. Seattle deserves better.

I first thought it was some sort of sci-fi thing. Don't know why....Robotic or something. I think they made a mistake with the slogan.

My first thought was- that's what I am. I love the city (as a visitor) and love the country/nature/lake (to me a lake is nature) forever to distraction.

But in my knowledge and personal experience every metro anything I know is a concrete gorilla. He/she talks about nature, yet spends a whole less time in it- rather ahhhh's from a distance and tends to vote rather green without knowing a tomato plant from a pepper one or how food actually appears. Also doesn't know a plow from a harvester, or a badger from a otter until bitten.

Laughter was my first reaction

By chance the same people who came up with the failed "Say Wa" campaign?

I thought of a city guy who doesn't use hair gel and makeup (sort of the opposite of a metrosexual).

I agree that Seattle deserves better... actually I think that Seattle is a great enough place that it doesn't need to label itself - it's above labeling.

First word that came to mind:

Was with wife this afternoon when she was picking on a co-worker who said he only spoke one language.

"Oh, so you're Monosapien!" We both laughed, she turned and said,"I just made that up!"

She's a quick one that lady!

Metronatural sounds like someone who belongs - or is only happy in a city - that is natural for a metropolitan area.

I think they didn;t do enough focus groups on this one - since it seems to be easily mistaken for exactly the opposite of what they intend.

I have to agree with nytraveler on this one. All that popped into my head was the parts of urban life that I don't like. The natural part of the slogan sounded more like an endorsement of the aforementioned city life than an allusion to all things wild.

I wonder how much this brilliant marketing plan is costing the citizens of Seattle. Baltimore recently adopted the slogan "Get In On It" at a cost of about half a million dollars. I think I'm in the wrong industry.

Subterranean tunnel dweller.

Alternate definition, someone who would rather take the subway than a taxi.

I saw an article about this www.nwcn.com and it said it cost $200K. What a waste of money, IMO.
