Are we being realistic?

We will be visiting California for the first time next April and will arrive at SFO Saturday around 2.00pm. The idea is to pick up the rental car and drive to Half Moon Bay for our first night. Is this realistic allowing for customs, baggage reclaim etc? If so, can anyone suggest a good place to stay?

Yes, this is very doable. From SFO take 101 south to 92 west. The drive should take about 40 minutes.

You can definitely do this, you'll get there right on time to settle in and watch the sunset! Half Moon Bay is just awesome, make sure to go visit Montara Beach, it's our favorite

Here's a link to hotels in the area: http://www.hotellocators.com/cities/...m?ref=ld119325

Not only is this doable, it sounds like a great plan. I love HMB.

My husband and I have stayed at the Zaballa House twice and really liked it. It's a B&B in the oldest house in HMB. It's a pretty casual place and moderately priced. They have some rooms with standard baths, some with whirlpool tubs, and some rooms with fireplaces. They also have a new section that they built behind the old house with some nice kitchenette rooms. We stayed in one of the new rooms last time and it was great - huge bed, fireplace, ceiling fan, whirlpool tub, and a balcony.

We live fairly close to HMB and we usually just drive over for the day, so I don't have any experiences with any other hotels in the area. I know there are several B&Bs, a couple budget chain motels, a Ritz Carlton, and I think a couple mid range hotels.

rouge & Celine - Thanks for your advice. Celine, I have checked out the web site and there are plenty of options. Any recommendations?

To J Correa - Sounds great! I'll check it out. Thanks.
