Are things open in NYC?
I have a day trip planned into NYC tomorrow, the 12th. This morning, a friend told me that she heard that stores were closed. Is anything closed or did I get bogus information?
Thanks! |
Bogus. All viable stores are open, making money.

I'm curious - can anyone enlighten me as to why in the world they would be closed? All I can come up with is Lincoln's actual birthday...
|
If you mean the snowstorm, it takes a lot more than 8" of snow to shut NYC. Other than that can't imagine why things would be closed.
|
The snowstorm did cause some stores to close early yesterday, but today it is business as usual.
As far as Lincoln's Birthday or other holidays meaning closed stores: The only days when things are really pretty much shuttered down (and even that seems to be changing) are Christmas, Thanksgiving, and maybe Easter. |
Thanks for the good news. I think my friend was simply operating on paranoia and misinformation. She was under the impression that the snowstorm caused stores/museums to close!

The sidewalks are fine. The schools in the city were open today. I haven't even seen the massive piles of snow on corners in midtown that were sometimes the norm after heavy snows.
Just make sure you bring boots as you are likely to encounter puddles in spots. |
I think some things WERE closed in DC and Baltimore, but NY, not a chance!!

First of all, we didn't have that much snow.
Second - even way more snow only clogs the city streets for a day at most. but the subway continues to run and everything except some small local stores is open. And was on Wed (we had about 2/3 of our employees in, some from Jersey - which had more snow - had to work from home). |
