Are motel reservations needed in New Orleans?

We are planning on stopping in New Orleans on our way back from Florida this June. Do you need reservations at the chain motels on the outskirts of New Orleans or are there plenty of motels? Thanks! Deb

I'm certainly no expert, but I think you would be able to find a room with very little trouble. Especially is you are not picky about where you stay.

The key word is "outskirts". You will have no problems.

Yep, on the outskirts you wont have a problem finding a room. We saw lots of roadside motels with vacancy signs when we went in May of last year. If you want to be in town though, you should make a reservation.

I don't know about New Orleans, but we have taken several trips in the summer where we did not have reservations and planned to stop at motels/hotels on the city outskirts (various cities) and have found they can fill up fast if there is anything going on in the area. I would never count on getting a motel/hotel again - we now always decide ahead where we will be and make reservations - even if only the night before. Good luck!!

We stayed in New Orleans recently and I was surprised to find out how often there are festivals there - it's a party place! You might want to check if there's a festival on during your dates, if so, it could be very busy. Try www.neworleansonline.com
