Are 6 days enough?
We will be driving around the Litchfield area of Connecticut in October and wondered is 6 days enough to see everything of interest/foilage etc.
Or should we pop over into Massachusetts? for a couple of days. we have been to Vermont/New hampshire/Boston areas before. |
I would think 6 days is enough.
What is your itinerary so far? |
As much as I like spending a relaxing weekend in Litchfield, I think 6 days may be too much time for the immediate area. What sites of interest are you thinking of ?

If you want to go to Massachusetts, the Great Barrington area is really nice for shopping, antiquing, and general wandering around in.
The New York state area near litchfield also has some great scenic drives, places of interest and such (NEw Paltz - for a quirky, artsy hippy town, Mohonk Mountain House for gorgeous views and hikes, Hudson for antiquing and fancy lunch, etc.) If you give us your interests and such we can help you formulate a plan. |
We are just putting our itinery together, so are VERY open to suggestions, we are happy to move over towards Rhode Island etc if anyone thinks its worth a look.
We are coming over to see foilage colours nice scenic drives, i love quaint little towns with nice shops to mooch around ( i need a new quilt!!)nice places to eat (not too posh, but nice) and well, am off to read my lonely planet guide to get some inspiration... any tips on things to see . We are not very athletic or arty types, just normal folks from uk. I really enjoyed our visit to Amish visit in PA/Virginia (plantations/civil war)and loved skeaneattels in finger lakes, Lennox and parts of vermont. to give you a feel for what moved us. Again, thanks for advice, sorry am not more specific but its at the embryonic stage at present... |
Have you thought about Newport RI? A tour of the mansions in that area might be interesting and the town had some lovely little shops.
The NY idea is a good one too -- Mohonk Mountain house is one of those old gram dames of summering outside the city and if you like antiquing the area around Hudson may still be considerably less expensive than Litchfield -- it's been a few years since we've been up that way. |
