Arches NP - Last Week of March or other place

I've been to Arches so I don't need any help there.

My adult daughter and 11 year old granddaughter would like to go on a trip during granddaughter's spring break the last week of March (2018). Moderate hike and scenery to photograph.

Has anybody gone then and what did you encounter weather wise?

We're not locked in to Arches. Another park that's somewhat warmer and possibly with some wildlife might even be a better idea.

All three of us are into photography.

Hi Myer,

Spring break time extends over several weeks so Arches can be busy at that time. Just make certain you are not hitting Easter week when the Jeep Safari happens! You do not want to be in Moab that week.

Spring is a nice time to go except that the weather is completely unpredictable. You could have anything from snow, rain, cold wind, to tee shirt weather. If you go prepared for anything, you will have a good time.

There is wildlife in Moab, as you probably know. Many creatures are small or nocturnal so you may not see them. There are bison in the Henry Mountains which are a kind of long drive away from Moab, but there would still be snow up there at end of March.

End of March would be early for the other parks. Zion is just too crowded now. Grand Staircase Escalante might also be fun, but again with unpredictable weather.

Zion would be warmer but crowded. If they are there for a whole week, I would do more than one park. They can certainly do Canyonlands. Ditto on the unpredictable weather. Could be nice and sunny all day with cold at night/early morning. Temps could be in the 50s. Or they could be in the 70s plus. Just bring lots of layers!! And definitely rain gear. It would still be beautiful. I go to Moab every year in February and we have a great time. It's usually in the 50s which I like for hiking.

I love Moab area but if you are wanting alternative options for photography that have a slightly better chance of good late March weather, how about Antelope Canyon, Glen Canyon dam, Horseshoe Bend, boat ride to Rainbow Bridge, Lake Powell area and maybe south rim Grand Canyon and Monument Valley?

Another option is Death Valley for hiking, photography and wildlife. Spring is the best time to visit

I love the Moab area and agree with all the advice so far. We've hit both tee shirt weather and snow flurries at that time of year.

bailey123's suggestions for Antelope canyon, GC, etc and Death Valley are also great and DV will be much warmer.

Last week of March 2018 happens to coincide with Jeep Week. Skip Moab entirely

Death Valley is great. You could also head to Tucson and visit Saguaro NP, Organ Pipe Cactus NM, and Chriicahua.

Big Bend NP is awesome but it's a trek to get there.

The trip idea has been canceled. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the responses.
