You might look at places like Idaho, Tahoe or along the CA coast. We just did a fair amount of hiking in Mendocino and Sonoma counties. The former will be cool, although not the latter. The four day time frame is throwing me though. All these options seem a long way to go for just four days. Have you considered anything closer to PA, e.g., Maine, Vermont, upstate NY?

Sadly, as entrepreneurs we are used to a go go go trip and do get a lot crammed into 4 days. Then need a vacation from the vacation but we are used to it.
Having been to Vermont, Maine, NH etc it is also quite crowded there so we always prefer to check out new places.
Sept/Oct may be perfect for Arches/Canyonlands.

Sept/Oct is great in Arches--the later the better as far as being cool. Just don't go the weekend of Fall Break/UEA in Utah--it is so crowded because EVERY child is out of school that weekend!!! (you can check the Salt Lake City School District calendar for the year you want to go to find out the date/weekend--its usually up a year or 2 in advance)

I'm with the others that say it will be unbearable. Personally I wouldn't even consider it. Having been to UT several times in Oct, we loved it during that month. Have also been several times in May and has been surprisingly warm then on a couple of those trips and 1 trip was comfortable.

This site has average temps for Moab

There is really no hiking challenges at Arches, but Canyonlands, Island in the Sky can be cruel from top to bottom and back up even in cool weather. Not recommended in July.
Also, bugs with the tiny blood sucking gnats being the most annoying. Ditto with Canyonlands- Needles District (for serious hikers only).

Have you considered Zion hiking the Virgin River Narrows?

Yet, it is well worth the journey.

Hello!

We did a part of the Narrows but we are not that good!
Would be a great challenge if not for bad knees. Great info on the parks. May hold off on Arches until fall - heat is not for us and since so much varied info rather be safe then sorry.
Just got an invite to camp at Tuolumne Meadows - Yosemite so that may be a nice alternative for August - if I can remember how to set up a tent.

We've been to Yellowstone many years in July and it's always hot in the middle of the day. Same with Glacier. Even Alaska was hot. Very intense sun.

Connie, We've been to Yellowstone on July 13th and had a couple of inches of snow. While Yellowstone can get hot, it usually is going to have a lot milder summer than the high desert of Utah.

Why do I know the exact date? It was my brother's birthday.

We were told you need to book Yellowstone so far in advance or it would be great.
Maybe next year.
