looking for ideas for a mid to late april vacation in the US. like to go where it is warmer than Mass. at that time of year but not really hot. 65-83 . would be ideal.

like nature stuff, birds, not overly fond of large cities. was considering san antonio area and hill country, but tends to be in the 90's or very high 80's that time of year. so having 2nd thoughts.

any ideas would be appreciated.

Where did you get the information that the temperatures are that high in April in the Hill Country? I'm looking at a chart that gives an average low of 58 and average high of 79.

If you plan to visit the Hill Country, April is a great time. The temperature is perfect and it's before the rainy month of May.

I would encourage you to reconsider.

I doubt that heat will be much of a problem re: of your destination. What about the Keys ?

Is California too far? If not, that time of year is gorgeous in Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Big Sur. All the wild flowers will be in bloom and temps will be low 60's to mid 70's. Ocean too!!

hill country - weather underground. typed in concan. came out with high temps . used uvalde I think. april 20-30

carmel, etc. great idea, but been there.

keys are probably too hot, but will check, most of southern fl is pretty warm by late april.

Well, since you've already been to Carmel---how about Hawaii?

On the Hill Country...Are you planning on spending most of your time in Uvalde? For some reason, the average temps there are about 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the Hill Country. Look at the charts for San Antonio, Austin, Fredericksburg.

I'm not really sure that Uvalde is actually in the Texas Hill Country...maybe it is...I think it really borders it to the south. In my opinion, the more interesting and scenic areas are to the north.

My recommendation is to stay within close range of the area that goes from San Antonio up to Austin (including New Braunfels and Gruene), west to Fredericksburg, southwest to Kerrville, Bandera...back to San Antonio.

Of course, if there was something special about Uvalde, can't help the temperatures there. If it was the scenery or activities, though, there is likely to be comparable to what you liked about Uvalde elsewhere.

The Keys dont get as hot as the rest of FL due to the water on both sides.

Might try Arizona. The southern part of state can visit desert country such as Organ Pipe or Chiricahua. Ramsey Canyon is known for hummingbirds. If you like prehistoric Indian sites can visit Walnut Canyon, Montezuma Castle & Well, Tonto, Wupatki & Canyon de Chelly. The Petrified Forest makes a nice stop over. Northern part of state have Sedona and Grand Canyon.

The Red Rock Country of southern Utah and its National Parks is another place to consider.

If you plan on visiting a number of national parks/monuments consider getting America the Beautiful pass for $80. Good for calendar year for entrance fees for up to 4 people.

over 65. have golden age pass. forget cost - but cheap and good forever.
