Apartment Rental Manhattan
Can anyone recommend a rental apartment in Manhattan, in a safe yet interesting section of the Village? Has anyone stayed in a place that's worth looking into? We are going to be spending a week in the city for a wedding and don't want to be stuck in a hotel for that length of time. I found one on 96th street/Central Park West, on the upper east side. Is this good?

I don't have time right now, but if you do a text search for ny apartment rental there are a few recent threads on the subject. One discussed a studio apt on Bleecker St. The rest were midtown and uptown.

96th at CPW is on the West Side, not east. And either way of course at the opposite end of Manhattan from the Village. How flexible are you about where you're staying?

Just remembered I kept a file
http://www.metro-home.com/ The studio on Bleeker street worked out great for us and we hope to stay again one day. www.jacksbandb.com We had #8 and #5. They were both great apartments, but #5 faced the street and was a bit noisy. Ask for one that faces the "courtyard" side. http://www.citysonnet.com www.yourstay.com www.hospitalityco.com www.signatureproperties.org (all downtown and all basic I think. |
Here are two that rent by the week that really look great. One is midtown West -- theatre district, the other is between Chelsea and West Village.

Absolutely DO NOT rent an apartment from yourstay.com for ANY of their cities, including London, Paris and New York. Just do a search on the Europe boards or on google and you'll see why!
Good luck! Leigh |
I have to strongly agree with the earlier post. Under no circumstances rent from Yourstay dot com. If you check the notyourstay web site (http://notyourstay.0catch.com) you can read the comments of those who rented with Yourstay in New York and Los Angeles. It would appear that the Yourstay business in the US is modeled after their operation in Europe.
It does not bode well for Yourstay that an alternate web site was created specifically to document the expereinces of those who rented from that business. |
Try this one - stayed here last week. They have a special now (found it thru travelzoo) for $149 for a one bedroom apt. Great location, superb accomodations. I was shocked ! Very, very nice ! Huge with 2 TVs, full kitchen, fitness center, etc. They have other locations in NYC also. http://www.affinia.com/NYC-Hotel/Eas...r/overview.cfm

You could also try looking at the short-term subletting section on CraigsList New York. This would probably work out best if you knew someone in New York who had the time and was willing to go and check out the apartment for you. Some have fees, though, so make sure you read the ads carefully.
