Apartment or suite in New York
 

Planning on staying two weeks for vacation in New York City (Manhattan) and looking for a studio or a one bedroom, furnished and with a small kitchen. Can either be in an hotel or in a tenant building.
I'm not sure in which neighborhood should I stay, so I'm looking for recommendations.
Also need help in locating a nice and contemporary looking place. (Tried the web but didn't find what I was looking for). Flexible budget. Thanks.

What is on your list as far as what to do in The City. If you want to see museums and Central Park, then the Upper East or West Sides of Manhattan would be the most logical places to stay. Otherwise, Midtown East is the most centrally located to the major attractions, especially Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue shopping, St. Patricks Cathedral, Central Park South, etc.

I plan to walk the streets, shop, go to museums, restaurants, shows.
Since I have two full weeks I feel I can choose a nice fun neighborhood, that doesn't necessarily need be nearby a specific attraction.

I'm sure you've probaby tried http://newyork.craigslist.org/ for owner posts for sublets - try to post you own requirements under "housing wanted," but be realistic with rates - expect about $400-500 a week min. for a small studio. Or try "temporary sublets" or "vacation rentals," the latter usually more expensive. I used craigslist for a 5 week rental and had good luck. I'd try Mid-town - Murray Hill, Chelsea, Union Square, Gramercy Park are all reasonable and safe and convenient

Try the Bridge Suites on E. 60th Street at First Avenue. Great area for a visitor (lower Upper East Side). It might be listed as "Bridge Suite Apartments." Good Luck!

My family anbd I have just returned from NY and stayed in a suite hotel called The Kimberly at E 50th st between Lexington and 3rd. Ideal location. Our one bed suite was very spacious and clean.Plenty of wardrobe space. kitchenette was very well fitted with oven, microwave, dishwasher and good size refrigerator with freezer.
Bedroom had Queen bed and our two kids slept on a very large sofa bed in the living area and had their own TV. Staff very friendly and courteous..would highly recommend this hotel.website www.kimberlyhotel.com Hope this helps.
