Anywhere Quiet in/near Miami?
I just realized the only place AA flies direct into FL. is Miami. We're travelling for the first time with our 1 year old, and I really didn't want a layover b/c of him.
I really wanted somewhere quiet and family oriented on the beach - is there anywhere like that in/near Miami? Once we get there we don't want to have to drive too far b/c of my son. Is this possible?? Thank you in advance! |
Hollywood Beach Florida, Just north of Miami/Dade County. Its a good hour from the Miami airport. or how about the Keys? Its not so far to the first keys, like Key Largo. (not Key West, its much further)

Where are you flying from out of curiosity?

It's been awhile since I've been in that area, but you might try Miami Beach (the area by the boardwalk, not South Beach), Key Biscayne or Bal Harbour. Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale are nice, as are the Keys. If you're looking to stay in a big resort, there are a bunch there. Is there a reason why you're committed to flying American?

I don't think anywhere in Miami Beach can be considered "quiet".
The S. East coast is already pretty highly developed and there is a great deal of construction going on now, especially in a number of places throughout the Miami area, including much of Miami Beach. You might want to look into places such as Lauderdale-By-The-Sea and Hillsboro Beach and being quieter. Key Largo has some low-key (no pun intended), "mom& pop" places, such as the Largo Lodge (www.largolodge.com) which might be good but be aware that the "beaches" there are man-made and pretty pathetic compared to real beaches. If you are prepared to pay $$$$$, then there are highly exclusive, secluded resorts on Fisher Island and Key Biscayne which might fit the bill. (big bills!) |
Corrections:
1. "The S. East Coast" should have read, The S. East Coast OF FLORIDA. 2. "...and being quieter" should have read "...AS being quieter" |
Be aware that the drive from MIA to the Key Largo is at least an hour.

we have AA vouchers that we are trying to use up before they expire. We are flying from Raleigh/Durham in NC.
Someone on another post suggested flying from charlotte NC but that is a few hours drive from us. Thank you all for the suggestions :) |
Key Biscayne is a good option. Try the Ritz Carlton or the Sonesta. They are quiet and right on the beach. Since Key Biscayne is its own little city just off the mainland, it is quiet, and it is not generally geared towards the crowd that prefers a South Beach vacation. It's much more residential.

Key Biscayne is an excellent suggestion. Very quiet and secluded.
