ANYTHING WORTH SEEING IN VERMONT???

Will be traveling to Bomoseen Lake in West Central Vt. from New Jersey during the 4th of July weekend. Any "can't miss" recommendations (i.e. sightseeing, restaurants)in Vt. or on the way there.

The Lake you are staying at is pretty close to Rutland where you will find plenty of restaraunts. Rutland itself isn't the nicest place, but the surrounding area is beautiful. Drive up to Killington and take the gondola to the top of the mountain for spectacular views. They also have mountain biking, hiking etc....
If you like outlet shopping, you'll most likely go through Lake George, NY which offers plenty of variety...I assume the outlets will be closed on Saturday though.
Have a fun weekend!
Hello Fellow Garden Staters:
Vermont is a state out of America's past: no billboards, only one city (Burlington) and lots of undisturbed land. Route 100 is a very scenic road to travel and the Texas Falls on Route 125 (just off 100) are a nice site. The Von Trapp Family Inn (of the "Sound of Music" fame) is somewhere in the Green Mountain State but I forget the exact town. In southern Vermont is Bennington, site of a Revolutionary War battle. If you are going as far north as Burlington, the downtown area has a few nice bars and restuarants and a great view of Lake Champlain. Enjoy!

The Von Trapp Family Inn is in Stowe, VT. The actual name is the Trapp Family Lodge. Stowe is a nice place to go, but it's probably too far from Bomoseen (approx. 2 1/2 hrs.) if you're only going to be there for a weekend.

Vermont is a lovely state. You should visit Manchester for some great outlets and beautiful homes. Also Grafton, Vermont near the southeast corner is unique. It has a great Tavern, dating to the early days of the USA. The homes have been restored (can't visit them though). A very quiet spot. Enjoy
