Anything to do around Lansing??
My husband has to be in Lansing for business in June. Its been awhile since we've taken a vacation together, so we thought that I could fly up later and we could take a vacation in the area. We like outdoors stuff---is there any resorts/things to do around the Lansing area, or within driving distance??

Kelly,

I just hope and pray you are not talking about Lansing, Michigan. If you were, you would be in big trouble. Get a rental car and go west to Holland or up north to Traverse City...but whatever you do...gettouttalansing!

The most exciting activity in Lansing? Probably lancing a boil.

Kelly, Lansing is a pretty town with lots to do for a day, including shopping in the downtown area. But for the rest of your vacation, go west to Lake Michigan. Maybe go to Saugatuck and stay in a B&B for a couple of days and then go further north a bit to see the sand dunes. You can have a wonderful time in michigan. See:

http://www.saugatuck.com/

Saugatuck is full of little shops and the town even been written up in Gourmet magazine.

Go east on I69 to Flint, then north on I75 to Frankenmuth -- a quaint German-theme town. Visit Bronner's - a unique year-round Christmas experience. Have chicken dinner at Zhender's. Have a cocktail on the front porch at Tiffany's. If you want a "shop-til-you-drop" experience, stop at the Outlet Stores at Birch Run (at I75 exit to Frankenmuth). Makes a nice day trip from Lansing if that's where you'll be stuck.

Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt Pleasant (about an hour or so north of Lansing) would also make a nice day trip. Stay the night if you can. Some decent entertainment.

Otherwise, I agree with the other postings - go west to Holland and lake Michigan or north to Traverse City or further north to Mackinac Island. Detroit would be more interesting than Lansing (no fooling!).
