Anything still open on the Cape?
 

I know lots of places shut down after the Labor Day weekend on Cape Cod, but I have a jones to do a quick weekend trip there this fall. What can I expect to still be open as far as restaurants, shops, and Inns? I know it's a genral question, but I'm thinking mid and upper cape (Wellfleet on up).

Pappy, though some restaurants do close, you will find many o0pen on the weekends. And not just restaurants, but all National Seashore venues, museums, sights and attractions,shops, art galleries, etal.
Fall weekends will have many towns holding their "festivals"- it Harwich's Cranberry festival, Easthams Windmill Festival Truros Treasure days, and Wellfleets Oyster Festival, this year the weekend of Oct. 14th and 15th.
Main Street is closed to all but pedestrians, shuttles venture out and back to the parking lots, or the pier, and the village is full of yummy food, boutiques, and lots of people!
You'll find accomadations with off-season prices, and still much to do. You may even fiund yourself alone walking the beach in solitude, like Henry David Thoreau!
After mid= October, then indeed it does close down.

So I am straight on this, all of those festivals you mentioned are on the same weekend next month (10/14-15)?

No, just the Wellfleet Oyster Festival. Windmill Weekend was the weekend of the 9th of September.

Whoops- I did leave that open didn't I!!- No= Wellfleet's lyster festival is that weekend. I will let you know when the others are-

Sept. 22-24 Bourne Scallop Festival
Oct. Cape Cod Oyster Festival Hyannis Harbor
Oct. 7-9 Yarmouth Seaside Festival
Oct. 13-15 Wellfleet oyster Festival

Harwich and Truro had their festivals this past weekend.

Eastham has an Antique show coming in October also.
Google Cape Week, a service of the Cape Cod Times newspaper, and it will give a schedule.

Most restaurants are open weekends through Christmas...the exceptions are the "clam shacks" that feature picnic style fish dishes, like Arnolds in Eastham, Mac's Seafood in Wellfleet and the Lobster Claw (Shanty, Pool, Pot etc.) in Orleans. Also, most B+B's and inns remain open weekends...some closing midweek for some mush neede rest. I suggest you check with the local chambers of commerce websites for lodging and availability. After checking around, I was surprised to find that Wellfleet and its neighbor to the south, Eastham, are filling fast for Oysterfest weekend. You might want to check www.wellfleetchamber.com and www.easthamchamber.com if you are interested in the weekend of Oct. 13, 14 on the outer cape.

Thanks yellow. The dates have now changed to the weekend prior (10/6-8). What's the goings on at this Seaside fest?

Just spent a wonderful weekend down in Truro - best time of year - less people but mostly everything (shops,restuarants etc.) is still open in Provincetown and will remain so thruout the year. Some do temporarily shut down though in mid winter - check first. Too many locals there for everything to shut down.

Pappy, it has the usual parade, craft show, races etc. If you google Yarmouth Seaside Festival you will get a lot of info. If you come, don't miss Captain Parker's if you like clam chowder. They have won many, many chowder festivals, Cape, Boston, Newport.
