Anyone visited Mt. Vernon recently?

We visited Mt. Vernon once before nearly 30 years ago. I vaguely recall that they did some updating a few years back to improve the visitor experience. We're considering a return visit when we're in the area in October. Anyone been there recently?

I first visited Mt. Vernon several years ago and I returned just a few months ago. The new Orientation Center and the Museum/Education Center are excellent and worth a lengthy visit. (I think we were in the museum nearly 2 hours).

Also, you now get a reserved time to visit the mansion. No more waiting in a long line to get in for a tour.

Good information, thanks!

We were there last summer. The museum is great- several films that are excellent and the displays are very well done. The gift shop/restaurants are considerably bigger and offer more than in the past.

My only gripe was that the tour of the house was very quick and cut and dry. They have a system to move a lot of people through at timed intervals so you don't have long waits but you feel that the guide in each room just spits out the facts and sends you packing to the next room too quickly. A bit of an assembly line feel to it. The grounds are great as always.

I agree livetoroam. It WAS a fast visit of the house! We loved the grounds and spent quite a bit of time there. Don't miss Martha Washington's talk. YOu can have a seat and listen to a lot of personnal history. :-)
