Anyone used Gotham Limo service in NYC?

I was planning on using Gotham Limo for a transfer from JFK airport to NJ. Anyone used this service before? I found one complaint online that they charged the client double for tolls. They are cheaper than the other service I was looking at so I want to make sure they are legit! Thanks.

Have never heard of them - so can't give any info one way or another. Have you tried Dial 7 or Carmel? Sometimes they have coupons on their web sites - and they have basic prices for a car service. (A real limo company - corporate accounts with actual limousines versus sedans will typically charge considerably more.)

Selecting an unknown car service that you found online because it's cheaper is NEVER a good idea. Invariably it will cost you in time, aggravation or or a misquoted price.
dial7.com is relatively inexpensive and dependable. Allstatelimo.com is also good. That said, it's not uncommon for a car service to charge the tolls in both directions since their driver will need to pay in 2 directions. I don't know where in NJ you're going, but it will likely be a lot cheaper to take a car service or taxi into Manhattan and then use public transporation if cost is a factor.

Thanks for the replies. I don't go to NY very often so all the car services are unknown to me. I am going to southern NJ so it is a long expensive trip. Can't go by public transportation since I'll have my dog with me, and don't really feel like renting a car and driving. Cost is a factor but sanity is also an issue.

I'll check the ones you mentioned to see if they will do the long distance trip.

When I called Gotham I just got a bad feeling about them (especially in light of the one bad review online). I told them the exact address and they said, "I'll look it up. Hm, that is 45 minutes from [such and such location originally agreed upon] so it will cost you extra." I said, "No, I've been there before, it is much closer. Look it up again. I will look it up on my map right now." Gotham: "Oh wait, ok it is 15 minutes away." Could have been an honest mistake but who knows.

Also I think it's fine if the company charges for tolls both ways, as long as they tell you that policy in advance. The complaint online said that the rate was pitched as all inclusive and then they found extra charges on their card later on.

You shouldn't expect ANY car service located in the NYC metro area to know every place (or maybe any place) in southern NJ. It's a different state and southern NJ is not even in the area. Once you get to your destination, won't you need a car anyway?

I recently traveled with my dog and several car services were leery about picking me up unless I was going to have the dog in his case. I didn't want to do that since he'd be in the case for the flight. I would suggest you find a car service from the area of your destination or rent a car and drive yourself. I did a quick search and found this company http://www.airportchariot.com/ I know nothing about them though. If you're staying at a hotel, you might ask them for a reco.

mclaurie, I know it's a different state, the guy on the phone looked up the address on his computer and then quoted me the (incorrect) additional fee. As I said, it could have been an innocent mistake but I just got a bad feeling.

My dog travels in his crate, but yes I am sure it would be impossible to find a car service that would take a dog loose, unless he was a very small dog riding in a purse. =)

I booked with Victory Limo, which was more expensive but got some good reviews online. Hopefully it will work out ok. Thanks for the replies!

Let us know how it goes. Have not heard of Victory but it looks like it might be a Phil. co.

I've used Gotham Limo (http://www.gothamlimo.com) a few times now typically for airport transportation. I've never had any problem and their chauffeurs have always been accommodating as well as knowledgeable about the city. I don't think they are neophytes in the area of limo transportation in New York - I was referred to them by a friend who has used them since the 70's.
