Anyone stay at the Farmer's Daughter Hotel near the Grove in LA?

Have friends coming from out of town looking for a cheap place to stay around Feb 14. Most places are booked. THE FD is an old hotel that just renovated and looks pretty cool with rates around $115. I thought it might be nice as it is next to the Farmer's Market which I adore.

Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge?

Santa Monica seems booked or too expensive. They will be coming from a few days at La Quinta in Palm Springs so they will have had their dose of luxury---any other ideas for hotels under $125/night?

I haven't stayed there because I live in LA, but in Sunday's Los Angeles Times, someone wrote a recommendation about it which was favorable. You can try the Renaissance in Hollywood, but not sure how much it is. I always recommend The Magic Castle Hotel to friends. Good luck. There is also a new Comfort Inn on Highland Avenue just up the street from the Renaissance. There is a Holiday Inn on Sunset Blvd. on the westside, you can try that too. Good luck.

hi,
I also read a very favorable review of Maison140 by another poster here. Not sure if it fits your budget, but it sounds nice too. The Farmers Daughter seems to be very popular.

Hmm. Interesting name. I've heard a lot of stories about the farmer's daughter. What's his daughter look like? It could account for the popularity.

Hi, Alisa!

I read that same "LA Times" article (which might still be available on their website)-- one of those "overnight in LA" articles they run in the Travel section on Sundays-- and it was surprisingly favorable (I mean, face it, the place looks like a garden variety WeHo motel at first glance). Your friends might appreciate not only the proximity to the Farmer's Market but also to Television City-- they might wander over for a taping of something or other.

I'm not entirely surprised Santa Monica's tough for cheap rooms-- Valentine's Day weekend might find people doing that Romantic Hotel Stay thing. Did you try the Georgian? Their rates usually stay competitive, and it's a grand old hotel right on Ocean Ave.

Thanks for the replies. Thanks for the Georgian tip--my sis says it is booked. A hotel steps away from a great apple fritter and coffee and the Farmer's Market sounds pretty good. I think I will tell them to go for it.

Thanks again!
