Anyone spent a long spring weekend in Gig Harbor?
 

Tell us what to do/see/where to stay. We've been to Port Townsend some years ago but will do 'some' driving around. Is the new bridge done yet?
What kind of weather can we expect around April 20? Will places have their patio furniture out yet?

Gig Harbor has a cute little downtown and a few restaurants of average quality. If you liked Port Townsend, you might also like La Conner and Friday Harbor. Gig Harbor has become a very busy residential bedroom community. You might enjoy a nice afternoon there, but perhaps a weekend would be too long. April 20 is a real crap shoot in the Puget Sound area. It might be nice cool spring day or it might be a fridged cold washout. Pretty much luck of the draw.

What new Bridge? IF you mean the Hood Canal bridge...no way is it close to done..found Indian artifacts...so expect delays...narrow construction caused lanes...back ups...
Long weekend is about right for Gig HArbor but it is a long way to Olympic Pennisula or Seattle...not exactly a great base location... does have some cute small hotesls with water and if sunny MT RAiner views. NOt much elso tho..

So the second Narrows bridge isn't done? We wouldn't be trying to day trip into Seattle, but would do more of our exploring north toward Pt. T. etc.
Are there any cute little towns between G.H. and Port T to have a look at? What about driving west a way toward Bremerton? Anything to see that way?
As far as running out of stuff to do. This is sort of a break or getaway for us. Long walks, a good book, wine by the harbor, etc. We've had trips where we did the restaurants and shopping in Seattle so this will be a bit different.

It's in the woods without a water view, but totally relaxing. It was a good place to stay on our arrival from the east coast and to unwind during the long July 4th weekend before heading out for further adventures.

Thanks. I found that one when I was looking at websites. However, DH loves water so we're staying on the harbor.

The second Narrows bridge is still about two years from complete. If you want to cross the Narrows be sure to stay away from the commute peaks. Another nice town to visit toward the Pensinsula is Poulsbo. It has a Downtown walking street with shops and bakeries.

Hoping - since you mentioned reading a good book - - I just finished "starvation Heights" - "a true story of murder and malice in the woods of the Pacific Northwest" by Gregg Olsen. It was a great regional book to read. It covers the whole range of history and travel, too!
